Manuel Stirling
Manuel Stirling was a Uruguayan political figure of the 19th century. Background He was from Paysandú, in the north of Uruguay. His family funeral monument, an imposing 80-ton structure, declared a national historic monument in 2004, was built in 1898. His grandson, Guillermo Stirling, :es:Guillermo Stirling served as interior minister in early 21st century, and was the Colorado Party (Uruguay)'s presidential candidate in 2004. Paysandú
Paysandú () is the capital of Paysandú Department in western Uruguay. Location The city is located on the banks of the Uruguay River, which forms the border with Argentina. It lies northwest of Montevideo via Route 1 and Route 3, on the junction of the latter with Route 90. As of the census of 2011 it was the fourth-most populated city of the country. A small distance north of the city is the General Artigas Bridge that links Uruguay with the Entre Ríos Province of Argentina, south of the city Colón. Guillermo Stirling
Guillermo Stirling (born 1937) is a Uruguayan notary and political figure. Background and political alignment Stirling is a prominent member of the Uruguayan Colorado Party. He has been a close colleague of Presidents Julio María Sanguinetti and Jorge Batlle. His grandfather Manuel Stirling was a Deputy and Senator for Paysandú. Stirling was President of the Chamber of Deputies of Uruguay from March 1, 1995 to March 1, 1996. The Colorado Party ( es, Partido Colorado, lit=Red Party) is a liberal political party in Uruguay. The politics of Uruguay abide by a presidential representative democratic republic, under which the President of Uruguay is both the head of state and the head of government, as well as a multiform party system.
