Manteri
The Manteri are a group of royal dignitaries within the Sultanate of Brunei whose position ranks the fourth-highest official in the country behind the Sultan. There are two main groups in the Manteri, namely the Manteri Berchiri and the Manteri Bertauliah. Each person who is given a position in the Manteri is also given a certain title. They are also referred to in official speech and correspondence with specific honorific references. The title of Manteri is given to ordinary people and is held in a ceremony, which for the awarding of the title of Pehin Manteri, it is known as "menyampiri gelaran". Legislative Council Of Brunei
The Legislative Council of Brunei (Malay: ''Majlis Mesyuarat Negara Brunei''; Jawi: مجليس مشوارت نڬارا بروني; abbrev: Legco) is a national unicameral legislature of Brunei. The council comprises 36 appointed members, that only has consultative tasks. Under Brunei's 1959 constitution, His Majesty Hassanal Bolkiah is the head of state with full executive authority, including emergency powers since 1962. The Council holds its sitting annually in March at Legislative Council Building in Bandar Seri Begawan. History The council was established in 1959 by virtue of Article 23 of Brunei's Constitution of 1959. Its first sitting was held at Lapau on 21 October 1959. In 1984, the Council managed to hold 32 meetings; the last one being the 21st Meeting held on 12 February 1984. Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah dissolved the council on the following day. Vizier (Brunei)
The Wazir (English: ''Vizier''; Jawi: وازير) are a group of royal dignitaries within the Sultanate of Brunei whose position ranks the second-highest official in the country behind the Sultan. The vizier had formerly held the position of the Sultan's highest official in the administration of the then-reigning government throughout Brunei's history, particularly during the times prior to and after the British protectorate (British Resident and Assistant British Resident). The core of Brunei's nobility consisted of this class of governmental offices, and it consists of a Perdana Wazir (head of the vizier), and four Wazir under him, namely Bendahara, Di-Gadong, Pemancha and Temenggong. Jamil Al-Sufri
Mohammad Jamil Al-Sufri bin Umar (10 December 1921 – 4 March 2021), pen name Wijaya, was a nobleman, historian and teacher from Brunei who previously served as a member of the Royal Council, member of the Royal Succession Council, member of the Islamic Religious Council, and member of the Privy Council. He has also been referred to as the National Historian. He wrote works on the country's history, ancestry, customs and traditions, royal titles, Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB), education, writings on Brunei heroes, and other topics. James Richard Henry Burns
James Richard Henry Burns (31 December 1916 – 26 December 2002) or also referred to as J. R. H. Burns, was a nobleman and police officer from England who served in several high-ranking positions which included being a member of the Brunei Privy Council and Brunei Police Commissioner. Biography Burns is born in England, on 31 December 1916. He was educated at Eastbourne College, and would go on to marry Rosamund Jackson (née Ward). He commenced his tenure with the Federated Malay States (FMS) Police in 1937, progressing through various ranks: Assistant Superintendent by 1940, Superintendent by 1950, Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Federation of Malaya by 1953, and finally, Senior Assistant Commissioner by 1957. Zain Serudin
Dato Seri Utama Dr. Ustaz Haji Mohammad Zain bin Haji Serudin (born 30 August 1936), pen name Shukri Zain, is a Bruneian nobleman, politician and poet who formerly held the position of Minister of Religious Affairs from 1986 to 2010. He has traveled abroad and made significant literary contributions to Malay-Islamic literature, including Islamic poetry and usage of his own Malay language to convey his poetic ideas. Hussain Mohammad Yusof
Hussain bin Mohammad Yusof (12 July 1933 – December 2012), sometimes spelled Hussein, was a Bruneian nobleman and politician who held the position of Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) from 1986 to 2005. Notably, he had also served on the Adat Istiadat Council, the Council of Succession, the Council of Cabinet Ministers, and the Privy Council. Early career Hussain's career began in March 1955, where he became a pensions officer. On 1 January 1963, he began work with the Brunei Administrative Service (BAS) as their Grade 1 officer. Idris Talog Davies
Idris Talog Davies (1 July 1917 – 21 July 1977) was a nobleman and judge who served in several high-ranking positions which included being appointed as a member of the Brunei Privy Council and the Brunei Attorney General. Notably, he was among the Avidosry Editorial Board for the Malayan Law Journal, and a lifetime member of the Malaysian Historical Society. Career After graduating from Cambridge University, Davies joined the Colonial Legal Service's Malayan Judicial and Legal Service on 20 September 1951. He worked in Kuala Lumpur as a federal counsel and deputy public prosecutor, among other positions. He later became the legal adviser to the State of Perlis until 1 October 1952. Dennis White (colonial Administrator)
Sir Dennis Charles White (30 July 1910 – 17 October 1983), sometimes referred to as Tuan D.C. White, was a British colonial administrator in Sarawak and formerly the British High Commissioner to Brunei. Career White was educated at Bradfield College, then joined the service of the Rajah of Sarawak in 1932. Isa Ibrahim (; born in 1935) is a politician from Brunei who currently serves as the Special Adviser to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office since 30 January 2018. Ismail Omar Abdul Aziz
Dr. Awang Haji Ismail bin Omar Abdul Aziz was the first state mufti of Brunei under the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, later State Mufti Office. He was a Malaysian expatriate ulema (a native Johorean Malay) and held many important posts in Johore. He became the State Mufti of Brunei in 1962 under the terms of 3 years.
