Manteo High School
Manteo High School is one of ten schools located in Dare County, North Carolina. The high school was named after the Native American chief Manteo, who assisted the Roanoke Colony. Renovations to the school were completed in 2007. In addition to Manteo it serves Nags Head and other parts of Roanoke Island (including Wanchese) as well as portions of Dare County on the North Carolina mainland (including Manns Harbor and Stumpy Point). History In 2003 enrollment was over 1,200. In 2004 First Flight High School opened, relieving Manteo High, taking about 800 students. Enrollment at Manteo High was down to 530. Manteo () is a town in Dare County, North Carolina, United States, located on Roanoke Island. The population was 1,602 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Dare County. Geography Manteo is located at (35.904595, -75.669385), on the north central area of Roanoke Island. It is located off the exit at the South 16 mile post on US Hwy 158 at Whalebone Junction, the junction of NC Highways 158, 64, and 12, known as the Beach Road. Stan M. White is a North Carolina politician who served as a member of the North Carolina Senate. A Democrat, he was appointed to represent Senate District 1 following the resignation of Sen. Marc Basnight just before the opening of the 2011 session of the legislature. He went on to lose the 2012 election to retain his seat by 21 votes out of more than 87,000 cast. Emanuel Edward Davis (born August 9, 1989) is a former American professional Canadian football defensive back. Davis spent the majority of his CFL career as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League (CFL). Marc Basnight
Marc Basnight (May 13, 1947 – December 28, 2020) was an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the North Carolina State Senate, representing the 1st district, from 1984 through his resignation just before the start of what would have been his 14th term in 2011. His district included constituents in Beaufort, Camden, Currituck, Dare, Hyde, Pasquotank, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. Dare County Schools (DCS) is a school district for Dare County, North Carolina. Its headquarters are in Nags Head. In 2008 the district began serving salads in the cafeterias. The cafeteria manager of First Flight High School stated that the salads had a good reception. In 2008 the principals of Nags Head Elementary and First Flight Middle switched positions.
