Mansfield Hawks
The Mansfield Hawks were an International Basketball Association (IBA) professional basketball team that existed for one season in 1998-99. The Hawks won the IBA championship in their lone season of existence. They were guided by local, but infamous, coach Kevin Mackey. One of the Hawks' notable players was 7 ft 2 in, 315 pound center Garth Joseph, a dominating presence with a physical appearance resembling Shaquille O'Neal. The team played its home games in the gymnasium of Malabar Middle School in Mansfield, Ohio. Curtis McCants
Curtis Reynard McCants (born August 2, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. A 6-foot point guard, he played college basketball at George Mason for 3 years, being named CAA Rookie of the Year in 1994 and first team All-Conference in 1996 before leaving the program after a fight with a teammate. He finished his college career at Cal State Bakersfield in the NCAA Division II and started his professional career in 1997 playing in Israel. In 2001 he was the top scorer of the LNB Pro A in France. In 10 years of pro career he played in several countries in Europe and South America. McCants has a daughter, Asia McCants, who played Division 1 basketball at Howard University. Vincent Thomas (April 16, 1907 – January 31, 1980) was a Democratic Party politician from California who represented San Pedro's 68th and 52nd Districts in the California Assembly from 1941 to 1978. Childhood and education Born in Biloxi, Mississippi, Thomas was the third of eight children of Croatian immigrants who came to America in 1903. His family moved from Mississippi to Oakland, California in 1917, and then to San Pedro in 1919. In 1928, he graduated from San Pedro High School. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Santa Clara in 1932 and attended the University of Santa Clara and Loyola Law Schools from 1932 to 1936.
