Manuel Alberto Diaz II (born March 13, 1974) is an American football coach who is currently the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Penn State University. He previously served as the head coach at the University of Miami from 2019 to 2021. Early life Diaz, son of former Miami mayor Manny Diaz, was born on March 13, 1974. At Miami Country Day High School, Diaz was a three sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. In 1991, Diaz was a ''Miami Herald'' honorable mention All-Dade County Scholar-Athlete for football, basketball and baseball. Manny Diaz is a graduate of Florida State University where he joined the Gamma Rho Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity. Manny Diaz (California Politician)
Manolo J. Diaz (born July 4, 1953, in San Francisco, California) is an American engineer and politician who served as a member of the California State Assembly from 2000 to 2004, representing the 23rd District. He left his seat in 2004 to make an unsuccessful run for the California State Senate. Diaz served as a member of the a San Jose City Council from 1995 to 2000 prior to joining the Assembly. Early life and education Diaz was one of four children, raised in San Francisco's Mission District. His first job, at age nine, was delivering newspapers. Diaz graduated from San Francisco State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Career Diaz worked as an engineer for 17 years prior to entering politics, including at the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Manuel Alberto Diaz (born November 5, 1954) is a Cuban-American politician who served as the chair of the Florida Democratic Party from 2021 to 2023. From 2001 to 2009, he served as the mayor of Miami, Florida. Early life and career Diaz and his mother, Elisa, left Cuba in 1961. He graduated from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in 1973. He scored the first touchdown in his high school's football history, and was named "Mr. Belén" in his graduating class. In 1977, Díaz received his bachelor's degree in political science from Florida International University. In 1980, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law. Diaz's law firm was hired to represent Lázaro Gonzalez in the custody case over his grand-nephew Elián González.
