Manly Times
''Manly Times'' ( bg, Мъжки времена, translit=Mazhki vremena, italic=yes) is a Bulgarian drama film released in 1977, directed by Eduard Zahariev, starring Grigor Vachkov, Mariana Dimitrova, Velko Kanev and Pavel Popandov. The screenplay, written by Nikolay Haytov is based on the short stories ''Manly Times'' and ''Wedding'' from his book ''Wild Stories'' (1967). In a colourful folklore manner, the movie presents an old tradition of stealing girls for brides that was a reputable occupation in the Rhodope Mountains region. The interaction between a brilliant literature and skilful directing as well as the memorable performances by Vachkov and Dimitrova received a broad critical acclaim and turned the film into one of the classics of the Bulgarian cinematography. Eduard Zahariev ( bg, Едуард Захариев; 1 July 1938 – 26 June 1996) was a Bulgarian film director and screenwriter. Being among the prominent Bulgarian film directors from the last decades of the 20th century, Zahariev directed 15 films between 1962 and 1996, most notably '' The Hare Census'' (1973), ''Villa Zone'' (1975), ''Manly Times'' (1977), ''Almost a Love Story'' (1980), ''Elegy'' (1982) and ''My Darling, My Darling'' (1986) which was entered into the 36th Berlin International Film Festival. Rhodope Mountains
The Rhodopes (; bg, Родопи, ; el, Ροδόπη, ''Rodopi''; tr, Rodoplar) are a mountain range in Southeastern Europe, and the largest by area in Bulgaria, with over 83% of its area in the southern part of the country and the remainder in Greece. Golyam Perelik is its highest peak at . The mountain range gives its name to the terrestrial ecoregion Rodope montane mixed forests that belongs in the temperate broadleaf and mixed forests biome and the Palearctic realm. The region is particularly notable for its karst areas with their deep river gorges, large caves and specific sculptured forms, such as the Trigrad Gorge. The Bulgarian National Television ( Bulgarian: Българска национална телевизия, ''Balgarska natsionalna televizia'') or BNT (БНТ), stylized as ·Б·Н·Т· since 2018, is a public television broadcaster of Bulgaria. Georgi Dimitrov Mihaylov (; Bulgarian: Гео̀рги Димитро̀в Миха̀йлов) also known as Georgiy Mihaylovich Dimitrov (russian: Гео́ргий Миха́йлович Дими́тров; 18 June 1882 – 2 July 1949), was a Bulgarian communist politician who served as General Secretary of the Bulgarian Communist Party from 1946 to 1949. From 1935 to 1943, he was the General Secretary of the Communist International. Born in western Bulgaria, Dimitrov worked as a printer and trade unionist during his youth. Nikolay Haytov ( bg, Николай Хайтов), or Nikolai Haitov (15 September 1919 – 30 June 2002) was a Bulgarian fiction writer, playwright, patriot and publicist known for his publications and research regarding the life of Bulgarian revolutionary Vasil Levski. Early life and education Born to a poor family of ordinary peasants in the village of , in Kuklen municipality, Plovdiv Province, Haytov finished junior high school in his native village and then moved to Plovdiv, where, instead of studying, he worked as an apprentice in a flour shop, as a waiter in a pub, as a valet and in the railway.
