Manly Marlins
Manly Rugby Union Football Club is a rugby union club based in Manly, a suburb of Sydney. The club was formed in 1883 and competes in the New South Wales Rugby Union competitions, the Charter Hall Shute Shield. Manly, known as the Marlins, play their home games at Manly Oval and train at Keirle Park. Manly Beaches and Manly Districts merged to form Manly RUFC. The District team's colours were chosen to represent to new club, whilst Beach's homeground, Manly Oval, was used for the merged club. Manly joined the first grade in 1906, but have roots back to 1883. The current club colours of red and blue came into being in the late 1900s. The club were a great force in the 1920s and 1930s. In 1950 Manly won both the first grade and reserve grade titles in the same season. However, there were no titles for over 30 years, until 1983, under coach Alan Jones, though the club, while playing entertaining running rugby, could not produce consistent results. Andrew Smith (born 10 January 1985) is an Australian rugby union player, currently playing for Australian Super Rugby side the Brumbies. He plays as a centre. Early life Smith played junior club rugby for Lindfield Rugby Club and then St Ives Rugby Union Club, representing Gordon District in the annual State Championships. Max Douglas (born September 15, 1970) is a Canadian comic book creator. Since approximately 1996, he has worked under the pen name of Salgood Sam which is derived from a reverse spelling of his name. David Porecki (born 23 October 1992 in Australia) is an Australian rugby union player who plays for the in Super Rugby and the Australian national team, the wallabies. His playing position is hooker. Reece Hodge (born 26 August 1994) is an Australian professional rugby union player for the Melbourne Rebels in Super Rugby. A utility back, Hodge can play fly-half, outside centre, wing or fullback. Cadeyrn Neville (born 9 November 1988) is an Australian rugby union player. His regular playing position is lock. He represents the ACT Brumbies in Super Rugby. Early career Neville began attending Manly Selective Campus in 2001. Neville joined the Australian Institute of Sport rowing program and left school in 2006. As a rower he represented Australia at the Youth Olympics, and trained with Australian rower Tom Swann, as both began their long-term preparations for the 2012 Olympics. Neville said, "The program I was in at the AIS when I left school in 2006, the goal of that was to produce a single sculler for London." Eddie Aholelei (born 3 December 1981) is a retired professional rugby union footballer. His regular playing position is prop. Early career Aholelei is of Tongan descent. He was born in Auckland, New Zealand but grew up in Tonga most of his life with his parents and 4 brothers and represented Tonga at Under 19 World Cup 2000 in France.
