Manjusri Secondary School
Manjusri Secondary School (MJR) is a co-educational government-aided secondary school in Ubi, Singapore. Named after the bodhisattva Manjusri, it was established by the Singapore Buddhist Federation in 1982 and affiliated to two primary schools: Mee Toh School and Maha Bodhi School. School history The school was set up by the Singapore Buddhist Federation in 1982 at 149 Sims Drive, Singapore 387380. In 2009, the school moved to a new campus at 20 Ubi Avenue 1 which was officially opened on 22 April 2010. The move allowed the school to share resources with its affiliated primary school, Maha Bodhi School. James Cook University Singapore currently occupies the old campus and continues to use its buildings. The school celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2012. Kampong Ubi
Kampong Ubi, also known as Ubi Estate, is a subzone located in the planning area of Geylang in the Central Region of Singapore. It lies within a somewhat rhombic piece of land bounded by Airport Road at the north, the Pan-Island Expressway at the south, Eunos Link at the east and Paya Lebar Road at the west. The area was formerly a Malay village. Etymology and early history The Malay word ''Ubi'' refers to the tapioca plant. Malays used to grow small tapioca farms in the area. Kampong Ubi ( Jawi: كامڤوڠ اوبي) was a rather large village even for its time. The first settlements began at the junction of Jalan Ubi and Changi Road, and quickly expanded northwards to the areas designated as the Kampong Ubi subzone today. Singapore At The 2005 Southeast Asian Games
Singapore participated at the 2005 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines under the IOC country code SIN. Sending a delegation of 658 athletes and 291 officials, the third largest it had ever sent to the games, the Singapore team set its target at 35 gold medals, five more than the haul won at the 2003 Southeast Asian Games held in Vietnam. The selection criteria for participating in the games was set strictly based on their ability to win at least a bronze medal for the country. Hence, the Singapore National Olympic Council asked the various sporting federation bodies to nominate their candidates based on their performance between 1 March 2005 to 24 June 2005, with achievements above the bronze medal scores in previous games. Ya Hui (; born Koh Yah Hwee; 18 May 1987) is a Singaporean actress. Early life Ya Hui was born on 18 May 1987 in Singapore. She was educated at Manjusri Secondary School and Serangoon Junior College. She joined the Dance Team for her Co-Curricular Activities from her primary school days to junior college, and was the prom queen during her college days. Singapore participated in the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea from 19 September to 4 October 2014. On 20 September, Lim Wei Wen won a bronze medal in fencing for the men's individual épée competition. On 21 September, Joseph Schooling won a bronze medal for swimming in the men's 200m butterfly with a time of 1:57.54 minutes. On 22 September, Tao Li won a silver medal for swimming in the women's 50m butterfly with a time of 26.28 seconds, missing out on a third consecutive Asian Games gold for the 50m butterfly. Also on 22 September, the men's doubles team for Sepak Takraw were bronze medalists. The Laos team were disqualified for failure to play their semi-final match. Singapore Chinese Orchestra SCO ( zh, c=新加坡华乐团, p=Xinjiapo Huayuetuan) is Singapore's only professional Chinese orchestra. Heng Swee Keat (; born 15 April 1961) is a Singaporean politician, former police officer and civil servant who has been serving as Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore since 2019 and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies since 2020 and also chairman of the People's Action Party since 2022.
