Manitoba Female Hockey League
The Manitoba Female Hockey League is an under-18 ice hockey league in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It is designated as an 'AAA' league – the highest level of minor hockey in Canada – and operates under the supervision of Hockey Manitoba. History The league was founded in 2008 to provide elite female hockey players in Manitoba with the opportunity to play at a more competitive level. A number of players who have played in the league have joined NCAA or CIS hockey programs. The league was built using the same model used by Hockey Manitoba for the Manitoba Midget 'AAA' Hockey League, which has been operating quite successfully since the 1980s. Esso Cup
The Esso Cup is the Canadian national women's under-18 ice hockey club championship, sponsored by Esso. It is an annual event, sanctioned by Hockey Canada, that takes place each April. The current champions are the Durham West Lightning, who won the 2022 Esso Cup in Okotoks, Alberta. History The forerunner to the Esso Cup was the Esso Women's Hockey Nationals, which was the Canadian senior women's championship from 1982 to 2008. With the evolution of the Nationals into a professional tournament, Hockey Canada elected to discontinue it in 2008 and replace it with a national female midget championship known as the ''Esso Cup''. The inaugural Esso Cup was played in April 2009 in Calgary, Alberta. The Westman Wildcats from Souris, Manitoba, were the first gold medalists. 2017 Esso Cup
The 2017 Esso Cup was Canada's ninth national women's midget hockey championship, contested April 23–29, 2017 at Morden, Manitoba. This was the first time that the Esso Cup tournament was played in Manitoba. All games were played at the 1,200-seat Huron Window Corporation Arena, located inside Morden's Access Events Centre. The St. Albert Slash won the gold medal with a 1-0 overtime victory over the Harfangs du Triolet. The Manitoba U-18 'AAA' Hockey League (MU18HL), formerly the Manitoba Midget 'AAA' Hockey League, is an ice hockey league in the province of Manitoba, Canada. The 2009 Esso Cup was Canada's inaugural national women's midget hockey championship, played April 19–25, 2009 at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The 2012 Esso Cup was Canada's fourth annual national women's midget hockey championship, which was played April 22–28, 2012 at MacLauchlan Arena inside the CARI Complex on the University of Prince Edward Island campus in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. The Pembina Valley Hawks from Manitoba won the gold medal with a 4–2 victory over the Thunder Bay Queens in the championship game. Hockey Saskatchewan is the governing body of all ice hockey in Saskatchewan. Hockey Saskatchewan is a branch of Hockey Canada.
