Manipur College
Manipur College, established in 1958, is one of the oldest degree college in Imphal, Manipur. It offers undergraduate courses in science and arts. It is affiliated to Manipur University. History The idea of establishing Manipur College arose on May 25, 1958, during a meeting of the Managing Committee of Singjamei Girls High School. Held in the courtyard of Sarungbam Babu Singh's residence, under the chairmanship of Shri Sanasam Gourahari Singh from Singjamei Sanasam Leikai, who was then the Secretary to Manipur Administration. A committee of seven members was formed, including Shri Pangambam Chaoba Singh, Shri Ningombam Iboton Singh, Shri Thounaojam Iboyaima Singh, Shri Thongram Haridas Singh, Shri Chongtham Nodiachand Singh, Shri Thokchom Lukhoi Singh, and Shri RK Tomalsana Singh. Imphal ( Meitei pronunciation: /im.pʰal/; English pronunciation: ) is the capital city of the Indian state of Manipur. Manipur University ( mni, Manipur Taibang Maheikol) is a central university located in Imphal, Manipur, India. Literacy in India is a key for social-economic progress. The 2011 census, indicated a 2001–2011 literacy growth of 97.2%, which is slower than the growth seen during the previous decade.
