Manik Lal Ray (Manik Sir) (born 28 December 1949 – 26 July 2019) was a Bangladeshi politician, teacher and freedom fighter. Jamalganj
Jamalganj ( bn, জামালগঞ্জ) is an upazila of Sunamganj District in the Division of Sylhet, Bangladesh. Geography Jamalganj is located at . It has 18119 households and total area 338.74 km2. Jamalganj Upazila is bounded by Tahirpur and bishwamvarpur upazilas on the north, khaliajuri and derai upazilas on the south, sunamganj sadar upazila on the east, mohanganj and dharmapasha upazilas on the west. Main rivers are Nawa Gang, Baulai and Dhanu; Pakna Haor and Hail Haor are also notable. Patilachura, Pangna, Lamba, Baska, Chhatidhara and Kachma beels are noted. Sunamganj
Sunamganj ( bn, সুনামগঞ্জ) is a town in the Sylhet Division of northeastern Bangladesh. It is the administrative headquarters and largest town of Sunamganj District. It is located on the banks of the Surma River, approximately west-northwest of Sylhet, the divisional headquarters. Municipality The municipality was formed in 1960. Nader Bakht was elected to a second consecutive term as mayor of Sunamganj in January 2021, as an Awami League candidate. Sylhet Division
Sylhet Division ( bn, সিলেট বিভাগ) is the northeastern division of Bangladesh. It is bordered by the Indian states of Meghalaya, Assam and Tripura to the north, east and south respectively, and by the Bangladeshi divisions of Chittagong to the southwest and Dhaka and Mymensingh to the west. Prior to 1947, it included the subdivision of Karimganj (presently in Barak Valley, India). However, Karimganj (including the thanas of Badarpur, Patharkandi and Ratabari) was inexplicably severed from Sylhet by the Radcliffe Boundary Commission. According to Niharranjan Ray, it was partly due to a plea from a delegation led by Abdul Matlib Mazumdar. Etymology and names The name ''Sylhet'' is an anglicisation of ''Shilhot'' (শিলহট).
