Manifold Records
Manifold Records is a US-based record label and mailorder store specializing in experimental, ambient and other hard-to-define audio materials. Begun in 1993 by writer and zine-publisher Vince Harrigan, the label has released works by Gravitar, Final (Justin Broadrick of Godflesh), Mick Harris, Lull, Steve Roach, Jeph Jerman, Maeror Tri, Ultra Milkmaids, Maurizio Bianchi, Aube and others. The label was briefly a critical favorite during the mid-1990s, being at the forefront of a short-lived genre called ''Isolationism'' through the label's unusual compilations. These compilations were novel in that they featured traditionally Ambient and New Age artists alongside Noisier, edgier acts and yet seemed to "work" as cohesive documents. Paul Schütze
Paul Schütze (born 1 May 1958) is an Australian artist resident in London. Over thirty years his work has spanned composition, performance, installation, video, printmaking and photography. Biography Schütze was born in Melbourne, Australia. He spent his childhood painting and drawing but left Caulfield Institute after only two months of an Arts Foundation Course to work in a factory. There he earned the money to buy his first electronic musical equipment. In 1979 he spent several months travelling and ended up in London where he immersed himself in concerts, museums and galleries. Returning to Melbourne he formed the improvising group Laughing Hands with Gordon Harvey, Ian Russell and Paul Widdicombe. The group existed in several forms until disbanding in 1982. Mahoroba (artist)
''Mahoroba'' is an ancient Japanese word describing a far-off land full of bliss and peace. It is roughly comparable to the western concepts of arcadia, a place surrounded by mountains full of harmony and quiet. ''Mahoroba'' is now written only in hiragana as まほろば. KK Null
, known by his stage name KK Null, is a Japanese experimental multi-instrumentalist active since the early 1980s. He began as a guitarist but learned how to compose, sing, play drums, and create electronic music. He also studied Butoh dance at Min Tanaka's workshop. KK Null joined the noise / progressive rock band YBO2 in 1984, issuing several albums and EPs throughout the remainder of the decade. Later he founded bands, such as Absolut Null Punkt (a.k.a. ANP) and the most well known, a self-described "progressive hardcore trio", Zeni Geva. An illusion is a distortion of the senses, which can reveal how the mind normally organizes and interprets sensory stimulation. Although illusions distort the human perception of reality, they are generally shared by most people. Illusions may occur with any of the human senses, but visual illusions (optical illusions) are the best-known and understood. The emphasis on visual illusions occurs because vision often dominates the other senses. Gravitar (band)
''Gravitar'' were an American noise rock band formed in Detroit, Michigan, United States, formed in 1992 by Eric Cook, Harry Richardson and Geoff Walker. In 1995, Richardson parted ways with the band and was replaced by Michael J. Walker, Geoff's brother. Aside from heavy metal and psychedelic acts such as Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer, Gravitar's music is strongly influenced by experimental music, jazz, and is mostly improvisational. History Gravitar's roots can be traced back to the band Stinkeye, a band from Mt. Pleasant featuring Eric Cook and Harold Richardson. Both Geoff Walker and Richardson purchased music at Schoolkids Records in Ann Arbor and eventually formed a bond over their eccentric musical tastes. Harold Richardson chose the name Gravitar as a name for the newly formed band. Cook, who was unaware of the Atari videogame, liked the name because it had a sense of weight and thickness. Paul Dennis Miller (born September 6, 1970), known professionally as DJ Spooky, That Subliminal Kid, is an American electronic and experimental hip hop musician whose work is often called by critics "illbient" or "trip hop". He is a turntablist, record producer, philosopher, and author. He borrowed his stage name from the character The Subliminal Kid in the novel ''Nova Express'' by William S. Burroughs. Having studied philosophy and French literature at Bowdoin College, he has become a professor of Music Mediated Art at the European Graduate School and is the executive editor of ''Origin'' magazine. Beequeen
Beequeen is an experimental rock group formed in 1988 in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Initially a duo of Frans de Waard and Freek Kinkelaar (both on vocals, keyboards and electronics), they were joined in 2007 by Olga Wallis, also on vocals and keyboards. They have released over 20 albums on different labels around the world. Formation In the summer of 1988, de Waard and Kinkelaar recorded and released their first album as Beequeen, a cassette entitled ''Mappa Mundi'' released on De Waard’s Korm Plastics label. A review at ''Chain D.L.K.'' stated this album had a "...lovely psychotic calmness." The name Beequeen originated from an admiration of the works of German conceptual artist Joseph Beuys.
