Manifold Heights is a residential suburb of Geelong. At the , Manifold Heights had a population of 2,649. It was named after Manifolds’ vineyards, that existed between Minerva Road and Shannon Avenue, immediately east of the Geelong Western Cemetery in Herne Hill. The vineyards were owned by the prominent Western District pastoralists, John and Peter Manifold. The Post Office opened on 25 March 1929, but has always been known as Manifold. Electoral District Of Geelong
The electoral district of Geelong is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It centres on inner metropolitan Geelong and following the June 2013 redistribution of electoral boundaries includes the suburbs of Belmont, Breakwater, East Geelong, Geelong, Geelong West, Newtown and South Geelong, Herne Hill, Manifold Heights, Newcomb, Newtown, St Albans Park, Thomson, Whittington and part of Fyansford. The seat first existed from 1856 to 1859 as a four-member seat. It was split into Geelong East and Geelong West in 1859, but re-created in 1876 as a three-member seat. It was cut back to a two-member seat in 1889, and became a single-member seat in 1904. It was abolished in 1976, but re-created in 1985. The Division of Corio is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. Geelong West is a commercial and residential suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. When Geelong was founded, the area was known as Kildare but its name was changed to Geelong West in 1875. Geelong Western Cemetery is a cemetery located on Minerva Road, Herne Hill in the city of Geelong, Victoria in Australia. The first burial taking place on 12 January 1858. The cemetery was known under various names during its history; New Cemetery, New General Cemetery, Herne Hill Cemetery, Newtown Cemetery. Its original layout was designed by Christopher Porter and its original plantings supplied by Baron von Mueller. Peter Manifold
Peter Manifold (1817-1885) was an English pastoralist and politician of western Victoria. Early life Born in 1817 to William and Mary Manifold in Bromborough, Cheshire, England. Emigrated to Tasmania. Pastoral activities He arrived in Geelong from Tasmania in July 1836 after his brother Thomas was the first to land sheep at Point Henry in Feb 1836. Peter Manifold and his brothers took up a sheep run around Batesford, occupying land both side of the Moorabool River. But after a few years looked to Victoria's western district for pasture. The Victorian Heritage Register (VHR) lists places deemed to be of cultural heritage significance to the State of Victoria, Australia. It has statutory weight under the Heritage Act 2017.
