Maniac 2000
"Maniac 2000" is a song produced by Simon Fitzpatrick and Tim Hannigan featuring vocals performed by Mark McCabe and Shelley Bukspan. It is a medley of Michael Sembello's 1983 song "Maniac" and a rap written mainly by Dublin's Al Gibbs and Mark McCabe, over the largely instrumental Sound Crowd club version of Irish rave act 4-Rhythm's cover of "Maniac", dating back to 1995, which was an Irish top 30 hit for Red Records. The song was released in Ireland in February 2000 and reached number one on the Irish Singles Chart, staying at that position for ten weeks, from 4 March to 6 May. It was Ireland's best-selling single of 2000 and is the fifth best-selling single in the history of the chart. "Maniac 2000" has achieved cult status in Ireland. Mark McCabe
Mark McCabe (born 10 May 1978) is an Irish music producer, remixer, radio DJ and club DJ, from Dublin. In 2000, he released "Maniac 2000" and it went to number one, as the second biggest-selling record ever in Ireland. In 2017, McCabe teamed up with the Sunset Bros, to release the record "Im Feelin It", which went on to hit thirty million streams on Spotify. McCabe has mixed the opening sequence for events, such as the Special Olympics in 2003, the 2005 and 2007 Saint Patrick's Festivals Skyfest. Michael Sembello
Michael Andrew Sembello (born April 17, 1954) is an American singer, guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter, composer and producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Sembello was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for his 1983 song "Maniac", which he sang and co-wrote. The song reached number one in the United States and featured in the ''Flashdance'' film soundtrack. Maniac (Michael Sembello Song)
"Maniac" is a song from the 1983 film ''Flashdance'' that was written by Dennis Matkosky and its performer, Michael Sembello. The original idea for the song came to Matkosky while watching a news report on a serial killer, which inspired gruesome lyrics that he and Sembello expanded upon after finding a 1980 horror film with the same name. When ''Flashdance'' director Adrian Lyne grew attached to the demo of the song used during filming, his music supervisor Phil Ramone requested lyrics more appropriate for their story of a dancer and worked with Sembello to produce a new version for the soundtrack. The new recording was used for a scene in which protagonist Alexandra Owens trains rigorously at home. After the film became a surprise success, a music video was made using scenes from the film and began airing on the cable channel MTV in May 1983, coinciding with the release of the single. The Irish Singles Chart is the Republic of Ireland's music industry standard singles popularity chart issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) and compiled on their behalf by the Official Charts Company. Chart rankings are based on sales, which are compiled through over-the-counter retail data captured electronically each day from retailers' EPOS systems. All major record shops, digital retailers and streaming services contribute to the chart, accounting for over 95% of the market. A Meteor Ireland Music Award was an accolade bestowed upon professionals in the music industry in Ireland and further afield. They had been bestowed each year since 2001, replacing the IRMA Ireland Music Awards held in the 1990s. Pirate radio in Ireland has had a long history, with hundreds of pirate radio stations having operated within the country. Due to past lax enforcement of the rules, the lack of commercial radio until 1989, and the small physical size of the country, pirate radio stations proliferated for a number of years. They were tolerated to a point by the government which only occasionally raided them in an effort to show compliance with Irish law. However, the national broadcaster, RTÉ, took a harsher approach, including radio jamming. History 20th century Pirate radio in Ireland has its origins in the early and mid-20th century. The Official Charts (legal name: The Official UK Charts Company Limited) is a British inter-professional organization that compiles various "official" record charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland and France.
