Mangoplah
Mangoplah is a town approximately south of Wagga Wagga in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. At the 2016 census, Mangoplah had a population of 309. The name of the town is believed to mean "Kooris singing" in the Wiradjuri aboriginal language. History The first bridge in Mangoplah was built in 1862 from funding of £700 by the NSW Government over Phillitop & Old Man Creek. In 1865, A parcel of Crown land in Mangoplah was allocated for public purposes to the Wesleyan Church. In 1866, Thomas Jones was the Licensee of the Mangoplah Inn and was sold to Mrs Ann Hyland in 1868. Around 1880, the Mangoplah Inn, became known as Richard Curry's Mangoplah Inn. During the 1860s and 1870s, Mangoplah use to hold an annual horse race meeting, on the anniversary of the colony in January each year, according to annual custom, at Mrs Hyland's Mangoplah Inn. Mangoplah Football Club
The Mangoplah Football Club is an Australian Rules Football club. It competes in and around the Wagga Wagga area in New South Wales, Australia. The Mangoplah Football Club was founded in 1913 by D J Lloyd, who became the club's first captain. In 1955 the club merged with Cookardinia United FC. History Early years * 1913 - first documented game in August against Cookardinia * 1914 - first official competitive match in the Yerong Creek & District Football Association for the Webster Cup against Cookardinia, Henty, The Rock and Yerong Creek. Livingstone National Park
Livingstone is a national park and state conservation area located south of Wagga Wagga and east of Mangoplah, in the South West Slopes region of south western New South Wales. History The national park originally was proclaimed as a State Forest in 1915 for timber located within the forest which was to be preserved for the town of Junee. A branch line from Mangoplah to Westby was located next to the state forest to carry timber but was later dismantled. A report by the New South Wales Forestry Commission found that the forest was only one of its type left, with further studies on the forest found a colony of squirrel gliders, which are the only two colonies left within southern New South Wales, three types of orchids and over 100 species of native birds. In 1976, the Wagga Wildlife and Conservation Society requested that the state forest to be gazetted as a national park after it was under threat however the request was turned down. The Rock, New South Wales
The Rock is a town with a population of 1,236, in the Riverina region of southern New South Wales, Australia, in Lockhart Shire. It is south-west of Wagga Wagga on the Olympic Highway. The town is named after the large rocky hill overlooking the town, now called ''The Rock Hill'' but called ''Yerong'' in the local indigenous language. The reserve that includes The Rock Hill is an attraction in the area for bush-walking, rock-climbing, and observation of wildlife. It is also an Aboriginal sacred site, called ''Kengal''. History The Rock Post Office opened on 1 September 1890. Prior to 1919, the town had been known as ''Kingston'', probably named for the King family which had operated the farm property known as "The Rock".
