Mangalore Kannada is one of the three regional varieties of Kannada language, an official language of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is also referred as the "Coastal dialect". The other regional varieties of Kannada are Bangalore / Mysore Kannada and Dharwar Kannada (Northern dialect). Mangaluru Kannada is spoken with clear diction. And close to the way Kannada is taught in primary schools. Historical and mythological Kannada movies and dramas use Mangalore Kannada. Kannada (; ಕನ್ನಡ, ), originally romanised Canarese, is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by the people of Karnataka in southwestern India, with minorities in all neighbouring states. It has around 47 million native speakers, and was additionally a second or third language for around 13 million non-native speakers in Karnataka. Kannada was the court language of some of the most powerful dynasties of south and central India, namely the Kadambas, Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Yadava Dynasty or Seunas, Western Ganga dynasty, Wodeyars of Mysore, Nayakas of Keladi Hoysalas and the Vijayanagara empire. Karnataka (; ISO: , , also known as Karunāḍu) is a state in the southwestern region of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act. Bangalore Kannada is a vernacular dialect of the Indian language, Kannada, which serves as the official language of the state of Karnataka, as the native language by the majority people of Karnataka classical languages of India. This dialect is primarily spoken by youth and in informal discourse between locals. This slang is quickly picked up by the outsiders who live in Bangalore. Mangalore (), officially known as Mangaluru, is a major port city of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats about west of Bangalore, the state capital, 20 km north of Karnataka–Kerala border, 297 km south of Goa.
