Manfred Walter
Manfred Walter (born 31 July 1937 in Wurzen) is a German former footballer A football player or footballer is a sportsperson who plays one of the different types of football. The main types of football are association football, American football, Canadian football, Australian rules football, Gaelic football, rugby le ... who played as a defender. He won a bronze medal with the East German Olympic team in the 1964 Football tournament of the Tokyo Games. For the full national team Walter made 16 appearances in the mid 1960s. In the East German Oberliga the defender scored nine goals in 243 matches. In 1963–64 Walter won the East German championship with this club BSG Chemie Leipzig. East Germany National Football Team
The East Germany national football team, recognized as Germany DR by FIFA, was from 1952 to 1990 the football team of East Germany, playing as one of three post-war German teams, along with Saarland and West Germany. After German reunification in 1990, the Deutscher Fußball Verband der DDR (DFV, ), and with it the East German team, joined the ''Deutscher Fußball Bund'' (DFB) and the West Germany national football team that had just won the World Cup. History In 1949, before East Germany (GDR) was founded and while regular private clubs were still banned under Soviet occupation, efforts were made to play football anyway. Helmut Schön coached selections of Saxony and the Soviet occupation zone before moving to the West. FC Sachsen Leipzig was a German football club from the Leutzsch district of Leipzig, Saxony. The club continued the traditions of BSG Chemie Leipzig. The club officially dissolved in 2011. Although several successor sides were established, only one survived, the BSG Chemie Leipzig. The name ''Sachsen Leipzig'' was revived in 2014 by amateur football club LFV Sachsen Leipzig. History Predecessors The prewar identity of the club is rooted in the establishment of ''Britannia Leipzig'' in 1899 and its successor ''TuRa Leipzig''. During the East German era the traditions of the club were continued in the teams '' BSG Chemie Leipzig'' and ''SC Lokomotive Leipzig'' before the emergence of ''FC Sachsen Leipzig'' following the German reunification.
