Mandorla Art Award
The Mandorla Art Award is an Australian religious art prize, where the artists are given a theme inspired by the Christian scriptures akin to the historic requests by the church to create visual images that tell the stories of the Bible. The award commenced in 1985 with finalists work exhibited at New Norcia Monastery Museum and Art Gallery, St John of God Hospitals in Perth, Western Australia Perth is the capital and largest city of the Australian state of Western Australia. Religious art is artistic imagery using religious inspiration and motifs and is often intended to uplift the mind to the spiritual. Sacred art involves the ritual and cultic practices and practical and operative aspects of the path of the spiritual realization within the artist's religious tradition. Ron Gomboc
Ratimir Marijan "Ron" Gomboc is an Australian sculptor. Biography Gomboc was born in 1947 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, Yugoslavia and received his early schooling in the town of Novi Vinodolski, Croatia. At the age of 13 he emigrated to Australia with his parents. On arriving in Australia he worked as a cabinet maker and builder before joining the Australian Army in 1969. After finishing his National Service in 1971 he enrolled in an art course at Claremont School of Art. During the 1970s he studied art and sculpture at Midland Technical College and Perth Technical College. At Midland he came under the tutelage of Guy Grey-Smith, a notable modernist artist. Julie Dowling (born 1969) is an Contemporary Indigenous Australian art, Indigenous Australian artist whose work, in a social realist style, deals with issues of Australian Aboriginal identity, Aboriginal identity. John Coburn (painter)
John Coburn (23 September 1925 – 7 November 2006) was an Australian abstract painter, teacher, tapestry designer and printmaker. Born in Ingham, Queensland, John Coburn moved from town to town with his mother and two younger sisters when his bank manager father went from branch to branch. His father died when the boy was 10. While enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II, Coburn travelled around the Pacific and Indian oceans as a radio operator.
