Manderley
Manderley is a fictional estate in Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel ''Rebecca'', owned by the character Maxim de Winter. Located in southern England (often said to be Cornwall as this was where the author lived, and explicitly stated as such in the Hitchcock adaptation), Manderley is a typical country estate: it is filled with family heirlooms, is run by a large domestic staff and is open to the public on certain days. In spite of the house's beauty, the main character, the unnamed narrator, who has become mistress of Manderley, senses an atmosphere of doom about it, due to the death of Max's first wife (the titular Rebecca), and it is hinted that Rebecca haunts the estate. Du Maurier's childhood visits to Milton Hall, Cambridgeshire, home of the Fitzwilliam family, influenced the descriptions of Manderley, especially the interior. ''Rebecca'' is a 1938 Gothic novel written by English author Daphne du Maurier. The novel depicts an unnamed young woman who impetuously marries a wealthy widower, before discovering that both he and his household are haunted by the memory of his late first wife, the title character. A bestseller which has never gone out of print, ''Rebecca'' sold 2.8 million copies between its publication in 1938 and 1965. Manderley Castle
Manderley Castle ( ga, Caisleán Mhanderley), formerly "Victoria Castle" and "Ayesha Castle", is a large castellated Irish mansion built in Victorian style, in Killiney, County Dublin, Ireland. It is currently owned by the singer Enya. Features From the roof of the crenellated turret of the castle, it is possible to see beyond the Irish coast as far eastward as Wales. The building is surrounded by of gardens which had a number of woodland walks. A "secret" tunnel at the bottom of the garden originally gave access to Killiney beach but now is sealed off. Menabilly ( kw, Men Ebeli, meaning ''stone of Colt (horse), colts'') is a historic estate on the south coast of Cornwall, England, situated within the parish of Tywardreath on the Gribben Head, Gribben peninsula about west of Fowey. ''Manderlay'' is a 2005 avant-garde drama film written and directed by Lars von Trier, the second and final part of von Trier's projected '' USA – Land of Opportunities'' trilogy. It stars Bryce Dallas Howard, who replaces Nicole Kidman in the role of Grace Mulligan. The film co-stars Willem Dafoe, replacing James Caan.
