Manchester Millrats
The Saint John Riptide were a Canadian professional basketball team based in Saint John, New Brunswick, that had home games at Harbour Station. They were a member of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) in the Atlantic Division. The team was one of two professional basketball teams from the province of New Brunswick, the other being the Moncton Magic. Established in 2007 as the Manchester Millrats (an expansion team based in Manchester, New Hampshire, which played in the American Basketball Association (ABA), a year later it moved to the Premier Basketball League (PBL). In 2010, it relocated to Saint John and in 2016 was renamed. In 2019, the team was granted a one-season hiatus by the league, but has since been inactive. The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada; french: Ligue nationale de basketball du Canada) is a Canadian professional men's minor league basketball organization. The NBL Canada was founded in 2011, when three existing Premier Basketball League teams joined with four new franchises for the league's inaugural season. The league has changed in size multiple times and has four active teams for the 2023 season, all in Ontario, but historically has had several located in the Atlantic Canada, Atlantic provinces. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, abbreviated as BSN, is the first-tier-level professional men's basketball list of basketball leagues, league in Puerto Rico. It was founded in 1929 and is organized by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation. The Baloncesto Superior Nacional, which is played under FIBA rules of basketball, rules, currently consists of 12 teams, of which the most successful has been the Vaqueros de Bayamón with 16 titles as of 2022. Capitanes De Arecibo
The Capitanes de Arecibo are a Puerto Rican professional basketball team based in Arecibo that competes in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) league. In 2010, the team also had the distinction to play in the Premier Basketball League (PBL) under the name Capitanes de Puerto Rico. The team began play in the league in 1946. Home games are held at Manuel Iguina Coliseum, which the team shares with the Capitanes de Arecibo men's volleyball team. Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry
The Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry was a professional basketball team based in Lawton, Oklahoma. They played in the Premier Basketball League after having been in the Continental Basketball Association. They have one PBL championship and also were the two time champions of the CBA. The original team was known as the Oklahoma City Cavalry, which competed in the CBA in Oklahoma City from 1990 to 1997 – when they were league champions. The new Oklahoma Cavalry, which was originally supposed to be a reincarnation of the original team and called the Oklahoma City Cavalry, began play in 2007. The Washington GreenHawks were a team of the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League (ACPBL) based in Washington, D.C. As the Maryland Nighthawks they were formerly part of the American Basketball Association (ABA) and a founding member of the Premier Basketball League (PBL), in which they later played as the Maryland GreenHawks. The Montreal Sasquatch were a team of the Premier Basketball League (PBL) that played in the 2008–09 season under two different ownership groups. History Réal Bourassa was granted an expansion franchise in the PBL for the 2009 season. However, on February 5, 2009, the PBL canceled the franchise after it emerged that players weren't being paid. A dispersal draft of Sasquatch players was then conducted. On February 11, the PBL announced that Soar Enterprises, another ownership group, would take over the franchise and play the remainder of the season. The squad was to be known as Team Montreal as Bourassa retained the rights to the name Sasquatch. The Sasquatch were one of four teams in the PBL Atlantic Division that enhanced their 20-game PBL schedule with 6 exhibitions to compete for the "Champlain Cup." Desmond Ferguson
Desmond Ferguson (born July 22, 1977, in Lansing, Michigan) is an American former professional basketball player and coach. He last played with the Halifax Rainmen of the PBL. He attended and played college basketball at the University of Missouri as a freshman and his last three seasons at the University of Detroit Mercy. He was signed by the National Basketball Association's Portland Trail Blazers to a 10-day contract in March 2004, and appeared in seven games with them during the 2003-04 NBA season. He was later taken by the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2004 NBA Expansion Draft and was waived sometime before the season began. Ferguson only played in the NBA for 2 weeks with his final game ever being on April 14, 2004 in a 105 - 104 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers. Rob Spon
Robert Spon is an American professional basketball coach, most recently serving as the head coach for the Cape Breton Highlanders of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada). He has previously led the Rochester RazorSharks, the Halifax Rainmen, Saint John Mill Rats/Riptide, and several other minor league teams in the past. Spon also has experience coaching the Dakota Wizards, Indiana Alleycats, and Pittsburgh Xplosion in the Continental Basketball Association. Coaching career In 2015, Spon led the Rochester RazorSharks to an undefeated season and a Premier Basketball League championship. Following the season, on May 7, he was named head coach of the Saint John Mill Rats, where he had previously served. The Mill Rats' ownership changed in 2016 but retained Spon as coach.
