Arabic Definite Article
( ar, ٱلْـ), also Romanized as ''el-'', ''il-,'' and ''l-'' as pronounced in some varieties of Arabic, is the definite article in the Arabic language: a particle (''ḥarf'') whose function is to render the noun on which it is prefixed definite. For example, the word ''kitāb'' "book" can be made definite by prefixing it with ''al-'', resulting in ''al-kitāb'' "the book". Consequently, ''al-'' is typically translated as "the" in English. Andy Manar
Andy Manar (born November 15, 1975) is a former Democratic member of the Illinois Senate. He represented the 48th district, including part or all of Christian, Macon, Macoupin, Madison, Montgomery, and Sangamon counties. Andy Manar is known for being the chief advocate for SB 1947, which made dramatic reforms to Illinois’ education funding formula. Prior to his service in the Illinois Senate, he was chairman of the Macoupin County Board from 2003 to 2012. On January 4, 2021 Manar announced that he would be stepping down from the State Senate to assume a role in the administration of J.B. Pritzker. On June 17, 2021 it was announced that Manar would become Deputy Governor in the Pritzker Administration, taking over for Dan Hynes. Houari Manar (Arabic: هواري منار; born Houari Madani; 18 December 1981 – 7 January 2019) was an Algerian raï singer who was popular in his home country as well as the neighbouring Maghreb and Mediterranean countries, and in France. Early life Houari Manar was born Houari El Madani in Oran into a family with twelve brothers and sisters. His mother was a popular ''meddahate'' singer; a traditional folk music performer at festivals and weddings. Two of his brothers, Cheb Massaro and Cheb Larbi, are also raï singers. The family moved to Marseille, France, when he was four. In his youth, he was inspired, in part, by singers such as Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, and Francis Cabrel. Career In 2003, Manar moved back to Algeria to begin a career as a raï singer; a form of Algerian folk music that dates back to the 1920s. ''Al-Manār'' ( ar, المنار; 'The Lighthouse'), was an Islamic magazine, written in Arabic, and was founded, published and edited by Rashid Rida from 1898 until his death in 1935 in Cairo, Egypt. The magazine championed the superiority of Islamic religious system over other ideologies and was noteworthy for its campaigns for the restoration of a pan-Islamic Caliphate. History and profile ''Al-Manār'' was founded by Rashid Rida in 1898, and his brother, Salih Rida, was also instrumental in the establishment of the magazine. The al-Manar Centre (sometimes referred to as 2 Glynrhondda Street) is a Salafi mosque in the Cathays district of Cardiff, Wales. Founded in 1992, it describes itself as being "one of heAhlus-Sunnah organisations". A widely circulated claim holds that a mosque was registered at this address in 1860, which would make the Al-Manar Centre the oldest mosque in the United Kingdom.
