Man On The Moon (musical)
''Man on the Moon'' is a 1975 musical written by John Phillips of the Mamas & The Papas, produced by Andy Warhol and directed by Paul Morrissey. The story concerns an American astronaut who leads a mission of interplanetary dignitaries to prevent the destruction of the universe by a bomb that has been placed on the moon by an evil scientist and primed to explode. The original production ran at the Little Theatre in New York for 43 preview performances (beginning December 27, 1974), opened on January 29, 1975 and closed two days later, on February 1, after disastrous opening night reviews. Andy Warhol
Andy Warhol (; born Andrew Warhola Jr.; August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American visual artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture. Baby Jane Holzer
Jane Holzer (née Brukenfeld; born October 23, 1940) is an American art collector and film producer who was previously an actress, model, and Warhol superstar. She was often known by the nickname Baby Jane Holzer. Biography The daughter of real estate investor Carl Brukenfeld, she married Leonard Holzer, an heir to a New York real estate fortune. Holzer was noted for including art projects in his developments, particularly at the Smith Haven Mall. Monique Van Vooren
Monique van Vooren (March 25, 1927 – January 25, 2020) was a Belgian-American actress and dancer. Early years Born in Brussels to George Bronz (or Bronze) and Louise van Vooren, Monique was a champion skater and a beauty queen in Belgium. Denny Doherty
Dennis Gerrard Stephen Doherty (November 29, 1940 – January 19, 2007) was a Canadian singer. He was a founding member of the 1960s musical group the Mamas and the Papas for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Early life and career Denny Doherty was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the youngest of five children. He grew up in Halifax's north end in a devout Catholic household. His father was a dockworker and Doherty has described his mother as "a housewife and mystic". Doherty and three friends, Richard Sheehan, Eddie Thibodeau, and Mike O'Connell, began their musical career in 1956 with a band called the Hepsters. Two years later they disbanded. In 1960, still in Halifax, Doherty, aged 19, along with Pat LaCroix and Richard Byrne, began a folk group, called the Colonials. ''Romance Is on the Rise'' is an album released in July 1974 by Genevieve Waite. It was produced by her then husband, John Phillips. The album was fairly well received and in 1977 it made number No 98 on Paul Gambaccini's list of the Top 200 Albums of All Time. Michael O'Donoghue (January 5, 1940 – November 8, 1994) was an American writer and performer. He was known for his dark and destructive style of comedy and humor, was a major contributor to ''National Lampoon'' magazine, and was the first head writer of ''Saturday Night Live''. The Factory
The Factory was Andy Warhol's studio in New York City, which had four locations between 1963 and 1987. The Factory became famed for its parties in the 1960s. It was the hip hangout spot for artists, musicians, celebrities and Warhol's superstars. The original Factory was often referred to as the Silver Factory. In the studio, Warhol's workers would make silkscreens and lithographs under his direction. History Due to the mess his work was causing at home, Warhol wanted to find a studio where he could paint.
