Man In The Saddle (1952 Film)
''Man in the Saddle'' is a 1951 American Western film directed by Andre DeToth starring Randolph Scott. The screenplay is based on the 1938 novel of the same name by Ernest Haycox. ''Man in the Saddle was'' the first of the many lucrative collaborations between its star Randolph Scott and producer Harry Joe Brown. The film's plot centers on a farmer (Scott) who turns to violence when a powerful and ruthless land baron (Knox) tries to take over his land. In the process he is caught between two women, the ambitious Laurie (Leslie) and the down-to-earth Nan (Drew). A high point in the film is a fierce fistfight between Scott and John Russell. Andre DeToth
Endre Antal Miksa DeToth, better known as Andre de Toth (born Endre Antal Mihály Tóth; May 15, 1913 – October 27, 2002), was a Hungarian-American film director, born and raised in Makó, Austria-Hungary. He directed the 3D film House of Wax (1953 film), ''House of Wax'', despite being unable to see in 3D himself, having lost an eye at an early age. Upon naturalization as a United States citizen in 1945, he took Endre Antal Miksa de Toth as his legal name. Early life Born in 1913 as Sasvári farkasfalvi tóthfalusi Tóth Endre Antal Mihály, de Toth earned a degree in law from the Eötvös Loránd University, Royal Hungarian Pázmány Péter Science's University in Budapest in the early 1930s. Cameron Mitchell (born Cameron McDowell Mitzell; November 4, 1918 – July 6, 1994) was an American film, television, and stage actor. He began his career on Broadway before entering films in the 1950s, appearing in several major features. Late in his career, he became known for his roles in numerous exploitation films in the 1970s and 1980s. Clem Guy Bevans (October 16, 1880 – August 11, 1963) was an American character actor best remembered for playing eccentric, grumpy old men. Early life Bevans was born in Cozzadale, Ohio. Career Bevans had a very long career, starting in vaudeville in 1900 in an act with Grace Emmett. He progressed to burlesque, Broadway, and even light opera, before making his film debut at the age of 55 in ''Way Down East'' (1935). His portrayal was so good, he became stereotyped and played mostly likable old codgers for the rest of his life.
