Man Alive (1945 Film)
''Man Alive'' is a 1945 romantic comedy film directed by Ray Enright and starring Pat O'Brien, Adolphe Menjou, Ellen Drew and Rudy Vallée. Plot Successful businessman Michael O'Flaherty "Speed" McBride ( Pat O'Brien) is knocked out when a tramp he picked up drives his car into a river. Speed is rescued by a passing showboat. Meanwhile, the dead tramp is mistaken for Speed. Speed is eager to clear up the misidentification, but Kismet (Adolphe Menjou), a member of the crew, talks him into postponing that revelation. Speed has revealed that he is having marital problems with his wife Connie ( Ellen Drew). Kismet convinces him to pretend to be a ghost to persuade Connie to get rid of a romantic rival, Gordon Tolliver (Rudy Vallée), Connie's old admirer. Comic hijinks ensue, but in the end, Connie realizes she still loves Speed. Ray Enright
Ray Enright (March 25, 1896 – April 3, 1965) was an American film director. He directed 73 films between 1927–53, many of them for Warner Bros. He oversaw comedy films like Joe E. Brown vehicles, five of the six informal pairings of Joan Blondell and Glenda Farrell, and later directed a number of Westerns, many featuring Randolph Scott. Enright was born in Anderson, Indiana, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. Jonathan Hale
Jonathan Hale (born Jonathan Hatley; March 21, 1891 – February 28, 1966) was a Canadian-born film and television actor. Life and career Hale was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Before his acting career, Hale worked in the Diplomatic Corps. Hale is most well known as Dagwood Bumstead's boss, Julius Caesar Dithers, in the '' Blondie'' film series in the 1940s. He is also notable for playing Inspector Fernack in various The Saint films by RKO Pictures. In 1950 he made two appearances in '' The Cisco Kid'' as Barry Owens. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. RCA chief David Sarnoff engineered the merger to create a market for the company's sound-on-film technology, RCA Photophone, and in early 1929 production began under the RKO name (an abbreviation of Radio-Keith-Orpheum). Jack Norton (born Mortimer John Naughton; September 2, 1882 – October 15, 1958) was an American stage and film character actor who appeared in more than 180 films between 1934 and 1948, often playing drunks, although in real life he was a teetotaler. Jason Nelson Robards (December 31, 1892 – April 4, 1963) was an American stage and screen actor, and the father of Oscar-winning actor Jason Robards Jr. Robards appeared in many films, initially as a leading man, then in character roles and occasional bit parts. Most of his final roles were in television. Life and career Robards was born on a farm in Hillsdale, Michigan, the son of Elizabeth (née Loomis), a schoolteacher, and Frank P.
