Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. is the present governor of the Province of Lanao del Sur. He was born to a powerful political family, and so was raised in local Lanao del Sur politics. He is the eldest son of Former Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal M. Adiong Sr. and Bae Soraya Alonto Adiong. His brothers are Former Regional Acting Governor Ansaruddin Alonto Adiong and Lanao del Sur 1st District Assemblyman Zia Alonto Adiong of the Autonomous Region on Muslim Mindanao. 2007 Philippine General Election
Legislative and local elections were held in the Philippines on May 14, 2007. Positions contested included half the seats in the Senate, which are elected for six-year terms, and all the seats in the House of Representatives, who were elected for three-year terms. The duly elected legislators of the 2007 elections joined the elected senators of the 2004 elections to comprise the 14th Congress of the Philippines. Most representatives won seats by being elected directly, the constituency being a geographical district of about 250,000 voters. There are 220 seats in total for all the legislative districts. Sangguniang Kabataan (abbreviated as SK; ) is a council meant to represent the youth in each barangay in the Philippines. It was put "on hold", but not quite abolished, prior to the 2013 barangay elections. In January 2016, the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act was signed into law which made some significant changes to the SK and initially scheduled new elections for October 2016. In March 2017, the elections were postponed anew to May 2018. The SK Chairman leads the Sangguniang Kabataan. A Local Youth Development Council (LYDC) composed of representatives of different local youth groups supports the SK and its programs. Basher Dimalaang Manalao or known to be Mostaqbal, a Maranao people, Islamic preacher (''Ulama'' or '' Aleem'') and was elected vice-governor then succeeded by law the governor of Lanao del Sur in the Philippines following the death of former governor Mamintal Adiong Sr. in 2004.
