Mamie Wang
Mamie Kwoh Wang (died March 12, 2002) was a director and vice-president of the American Bureau for Medical Advancement in China Inc (ABMAC). She was also a professor at the Cornell School of Nursing and helped develop the training program for nurse practitioners. She was predeceased by her husband Shih-Chun Wang, who was a physiologist and pharmacologist on the faculty of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her daughter, Phyllis Wise, was the 9th Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and interim president of the University of Washington. The Cornell University School of Nursing was a nursing school in New York City founded in 1877 as the New York Hospital Training School for Nurses; it closed in 1979. A nurse practitioner (NP) is an advanced practice registered nurse and a type of mid-level practitioner. NPs are trained to assess patient needs, order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory tests, diagnose disease, formulate and prescribe medications and treatment plans. Shih-Chun Wang
Shih-Chun Wang (1910-1993) was a Chinese-Americans, Chinese-American medical doctor, neuroscientist, and pharmacology professor. Early life and education Wang was born on January 25, 1910, in Tientsin, China. He attended Yenching University in Beijing where he received a bachelor of science in 1931 before going to Peking Union Medical College to earn his medical degree in 1935. In 1937, Wang received a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship to travel to the United States to study neurology at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He worked under the direction of S.W. Ransom at the Institute of Neurology in the Northwestern University Medical School where he received his Ph.D. in 1940. While still a student at Northwestern, Wang married the former Mamie Wang, Mamie Kwoh, a registered nurse from China. Phyllis Wise
Phyllis M. Wise (Chinese name 王斐丽) is a biomedical researcher. Most recently, she is currently serving as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer and President of Colorado Longitudinal Study. Family and education Wise is the daughter of Mamie Wang and Shih-Chun Wang. Wise received a bachelor's degree in biology from Swarthmore College in 1967, an M.A. (1969) and then a doctorate (1972) in zoology from the University of Michigan.
