Maltese Elections Of Committees For Communities 2010
Committees for Communities elections were held in Malta in 2010. The elections were held in eight hamlets on 27 March, with elections in a further eight on 5 June. March elections Elections were held in March in Bubaqra (Żurrieq), Fleur-de-Lys (Birkirkara), Kappara (San Ġwann), Madliena (Swieqi) and Paceville ( St. Julian's), Marsalforn (Żebbuġ), Santa Luċija (Kerċem) and Xlendi (Munxar). In Santa Luċija there was no election because only five candidates ran. A total of ten candidates ran for the Labour Party, 36 candidates for the Nationalist Party and two independents. The Nationalist Party won the March elections with 63% of first count votes. The Labour Party obtained 34% while independent candidates obtained only 3%. The national turnout for the March elections was 35%. The highest turnout was in Fleur-de-Lys (48%) and the lowest in Xlendi (22%). Nationalist Party (Malta)
The Nationalist Party ( mt, Partit Nazzjonalista, PN) is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Malta, along with the Labour Party. It is a Christian-democratic, and conservative political party, and it has been also described as centrist or centre-right on the political spectrum. It is supportive of Malta's membership in the European Union. It is currently in opposition to the Labour Party. Żabbar
Żabbar ( mt, Ħaż-Żabbar, ), also known as Città Hompesch, is a city in the South Eastern Region of Malta. It is the sixth largest city in the country, with a population of 15,404 as of March 2014. Originally a part of Żejtun, Żabbar was granted the title of ''Città Hompesch'' by the last of the Grand Masters of the Order of St. John to reign in Malta, Ferdinand von Hompesch zu Bolheim. Msida ( mt, L-Imsida, it, Misida) is a harbour town in the Central Region of Malta with a population of 7, 623 (2021). Location The town is located just west of Valletta on the northeast coast of Malta. The neighbouring towns of Msida are Ta' Xbiex, Gżira, San Ġwann, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Ħamrun and Pietà. Swatar, colloquially known as Is-Swatar and Tas-Swatar, is a hamlet in Malta situated in Birkirkara and in Msida. In 2015 it had a population of over 5,100 people, with around 1,600 families. Luqa
Luqa ( mt, Ħal Luqa, , ) is a town located in the Southern Region of Malta, 4.3 km away from the capital Valletta. With a population of 5,945 as of March 2014, it is a small but densely populated settlement which is typical of Malta's older towns and villages. Ħal Farruġ
Ħal Farruġ is a hamlet located in the south east of Malta, within the limits of Luqa. Within the hamlet's general area, a total number of 24 streets can be found. The hamlet was run down in 1941 due to the construction of a new airport runway, which is today the major runway in the Malta International Airport. Ħal Farruġ hosts the headquarters of Polidano Group, Malta's largest construction company. Illegal developments on site, including an office block, a dormitory for foreign workers, a brick factory and an underground parking, were legalised by the Planning Authority in May 2021. Pietà ( mt, Tal-Pietà) is a small town in the Central Region of Malta, located near the outskirts of the capital city Valletta. Pietà is the suburb next-closest to the capital after Floriana. St. Paul's Bay ( mt, San Pawl il-Baħar) is a town in the Northern Region of Malta, sixteen kilometres () northwest of the capital Valletta. Saint Paul's Bay is the largest town in the Northern Region and the seat of the Northern Regional Committee. Burmarrad
Burmarrad is a hamlet in St. Paul's Bay, Malta. The main heritage site is the San Pawl Milqi zone, where there is a chapel dedicated to St. Paul, built on the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to Apollo, and tradition says to be the remains of the home of St. Publius. Overview The name 'Burmarrad' may refer to the village's proximity to the sea. It is generally accepted that the name, in old Maltese, refers to a settlement upon the marshes. The original word was 'bur marradi', where the "bur" refers to a well, while "marradi" means sickly. Conjoined, this means that the water in the marshes was contaminated, hence bur marradi, and later Burmarrad. Burmarrad retains a number of farms, primarily centred on agriculture. Several archeological remains are found in the whereabouts. The parish priest since 2016 is P. Christian Anthony Borg.
