It is part of the traditional region of Lower Carniola and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. South of the settlement, by Besnica (creek), Besnica Creek, a Ancient Rome, Roman-period cemetery, burial ground has been discovered. The national flag of Slovenia ( sl, zastava Slovenije) features three equal horizontal bands of white (top), blue, and red, with the Coat of arms of Slovenia located in the upper hoist side of the flag centered in the white and blue bands.
