Malmberget
Malmberget ("The Ore Mountain", Finnish and Meänkieli: ''Malmivaara'') is a locality and mining town situated in Gällivare Municipality, Norrbotten County, Sweden. It had 5,590 inhabitants in 2010, reduced to 927 by December 2020. It is situated 5 kilometres from the municipal seat of Gällivare. The entire Malmberget town was moved in 2020/2021 due to mining activities in the area. Malmberget is known as a major site for the extraction of iron ore from deep mines by Swedish mining company LKAB. Iron ore mining started in 1741 at Illuvaara mountain, later known as ''Gällivare Malmberg'' and eventually just ''Malmberget''. The first train transporting iron ore was loaded in 1888 - the beginning of the great iron ore rush that would change the entire area of Northern Lapland. Gällivare Malmbergets FF is a Swedish football club in Gällivare. Background Since its foundation in 2005, Gällivare Malmbergets FF has participated in the middle divisions of the Swedish football league system. The club currently plays in Division 2 Norrland which is the fifth tier of Swedish football. After many years of discussion, the football team of Gällivare Sportklubb (GSK) was merged with Malmbergets Allmänna Idrottsförening (MAIF) at the end of the 2005 season and the new club is now called Gällivare-Malmbergets Fotbollsförening (GMFF). The Malmberget mine (Swedish: ''Malmbergsgruvan'') is one of the largest iron ore mines in Sweden. The mine is located in Malmberget in Norrbotten County, Lapland. The mine which is owned by Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB) has an annual production capacity of over 5 million tonnes of iron ore. Gällivare
Gällivare (; fi, Jällivaara; se, Jiellevárri or ; smj, Jiellevárre or ; fit, Jellivaara) is a locality and the seat of Gällivare Municipality in Norrbotten County, province of Lapland, Sweden with 8,449 inhabitants in 2010. The town was founded in the 17th century. Together with nearby towns Malmberget and Koskullskulle it forms a conurbation with some 15,000 inhabitants. This conurbation is the second northernmost significant urban area of Sweden after Kiruna.
