Mallow College of Further Education is a regional further education college campus of the Cork Education and Training Board, based in Mallow, County Cork Mallow (; ) is a town in County Cork, Ireland, approximately thirty-five kilometres north of Cork. In 2001, the secondary school was moved to its current location in Summerhill and its further education section, originally just two courses (business studies and computer studies for adults and secretarial), took up sole occupancy on the "Annabella" campus at West End street where it remains today. Post-Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses (Irish Language, Irish: Cúrsa Iar Ard-Teistiméarachta) are a set of courses and qualifications run in Republic of Ireland, Ireland for students who have finished their secondary education. The term refers to post-secondary education courses which are not found within the higher education sector, but the further education sector in Ireland. The majority of students who enrol on a PLC course are under 23, but mature students are also welcome, and increasingly enrolling on such courses. A Post-Leaving Certificate course is taken after a student has passed their Irish Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate, and is generally between one and two years in duration. PLC courses are aimed primarily at students who would like to develop vocational or technological skills in order to enter an occupation, or progress to higher education. An Education and Training Board (ETB) ( ga, Bord Oideachais agus Oiliúna) is one of sixteen statutory local education bodies that deliver a wide range of education services in the Republic of Ireland. ETBs manage a large number of secondary schools, further education colleges and training centres, multi-faith primary schools (Community National Schools) and adult education centres throughout the country. They deliver a growing number of apprenticeships and traineeships across the State. Mallow, County Cork
Mallow (; ) is a town in County Cork, Ireland, approximately thirty-five kilometres north of Cork. Mallow is in the barony of Fermoy. It is the administrative centre of north County Cork, and the Northern Divisional Offices of Cork County Council are located in the town. Mallow is part of the Cork East Dáil constituency. Name The earliest form of the name is ''Magh nAla'', meaning "plain of the stone". In the anglicisation "Mallow", ''-ow'' originally represented a reduced schwa sound (), which is now however pronounced as a full vowel . In 1975, ''Mala''—a shortening of ''Magh nAla''—was among the first Irish placenames adopted by statute, on the advice of the Placenames branch of the Ordnance Survey of Ireland. In the ''Annals of the Four Masters'', compiled in the 1630s, ''Magh nAla'' is misrepresented as ''Magh Eala'', the Donegal-based authors being insufficiently familiar with Cork places. P.W. Thomas Davis (Young Irelander)
Thomas Osborne Davis (14 October 1814 – 16 September 1845) was an Irish writer; with Charles Gavan Duffy and John Blake Dillon, a founding editor of ''The Nation,'' the weekly organ of what came to be known as the Young Ireland movement. While embracing the common cause of a representative, national government for Ireland, Davis took issue with the nationalist leader Daniel O'Connell by arguing for the common ("mixed") education of Catholics and Protestants and by advocating for Irish as the national language. Early life Thomas Davis was born on 14 October 1814, in Mallow, County Cork, fourth and last child of James Davis, a Welsh surgeon in the Royal Artillery based for many years in Dublin, and an Irish mother. His father died in Exeter a month before his birth, en route to serve in the Peninsular War.
