The Mallorca Classic was a men's professional golf tournament on the European Tour, held between 2003 and 2007 at Pula Golf in Mallorca. It marked the return of the tour to the island, having previously played host to the Open de Baleares between 1988 and 1995. Mallorca
Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain and located in the Mediterranean. 2006 European Tour
The 2006 European Tour was the 35th golf season since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The season began with five events in late 2005 and consisted of 47 official money events, equalling the record set the previous year. This included the four major championships and three World Golf Championships, which are also sanctioned by the PGA Tour. 27 events took place in Europe, 12 in Asia, five in the United States, two in South Africa and one in Australia. Total prize money exceeded €117 million, including nearly €40 million in the major championships and WGC events. The Order of Merit race came down to the last few shots of the final tournament, and was won by Pádraig Harrington for the first time. He was the first Irishman to top the Order of Merit since the official beginning of the tour. Miguel Ángel Jiménez
Miguel Ángel Jiménez Rodríguez (born 5 January 1964) is a Spanish professional golfer. He has won 21 times on the European Tour and has been a member of two victorious Ryder Cup teams. Early years Born in Málaga in southern Spain, Jiménez first played on the European Tour in 1988 and improved steadily over the next few seasons. His first win on the tour came at the Piaget Belgian Open in 1992. During a fairly up and down career, he has so far had four main periods of success. 2003 European Tour
The 2003 European Tour was the 32nd season of golf tournaments since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The season was made up of 45 tournaments counting towards the Order of Merit, which included the four major championships and three World Golf Championships, and three non-counting "Approved Special Events". The Order of Merit was won for the first time by South African Ernie Els. 2003 Challenge Tour
The 2003 Challenge Tour was the 15th season of the Challenge Tour, the official development tour to the European Tour. The tour started as the Satellite Tour with its first Order of Merit rankings in 1989 and was officially renamed as the Challenge Tour at the start of the 1990 season. The Challenge Tour Rankings were won by Sweden's Johan Edfors. Schedule The following table lists official events during the 2003 season. Simon Khan
Simon Khan (born 16 June 1972) is an English professional golfer who plays on the European Tour. Khan turned professional in 1991 but spent many years struggling to establish his tournament career. His first full season on the European Tour was 2002 and his first European Tour win came at the 2004 Celtic Manor Wales Open. In 2006 he finished second at the prestigious BMW Championship to earn €472,220, which was his biggest prize cheque up to that time. His best year-end ranking on the European Order of Merit has been 25th in 2006 and 2010. He has featured in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Rankings. After losing his tour card in 2009, Khan was a medalist at the Qualifying School tournament. José Manuel Lara
José Manuel Lara (born 21 May 1977) is a Spanish professional golfer. Lara was born in Valencia, Spain. He turned professional in 1997, and has competed on the European Tour since 2001, having finished 11th in the previous seasons Challenge Tour rankings. From 2003 to 2012, he maintained his tour card by finishing inside the top 115 on the Order of Merit, with a best of 30th place in 2006. However, after a poor 2013 season in which he only made 7 cuts from 29 tour events, he finished 154th on the money list and failed to regain his card at Q-School. Lara claimed his first European Tour victory at the Hong Kong Open in November 2006. He has featured in the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking. Paul Broadhurst
Paul Andrew Broadhurst (born 14 August 1965) is an English professional golfer. He won six times on the European Tour and played in the 1991 Ryder Cup. Since turning 50, he has had success in senior events, winning the 2016 Senior Open Championship and the 2018 Senior PGA Championship. Career Broadhurst was the leading amateur at the 1988 Open Championship. He joined the European Tour in 1989 and picked up his first win at the Credit Lyonnais Cannes Open that year, and was the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Further European Tour wins followed in 1991, 1993 and in 1995, when he won the Open de France (French Open). He played in the Ryder Cup in 1991. José María Olazábal
José María Olazábal Manterola (, ; born 5 February 1966) is a Spanish professional golfer from the Basque region who has enjoyed success on both the European Tour and the PGA Tour, and has won two major championships, both at The Masters. In 2012 he captained Europe's Ryder Cup team to a narrow victory over the US, which seemed improbable at the start of the final day's play when the Europeans trailed 10–6. They came back to win 14½–13½. Early life Olazábal was born in Hondarribia, a town in the Basque autonomous region of Spain, the day after the golf course Real Golf Club de San Sebastian opened next to his family's home. His father Gaspar succeeded his grandfather as greenskeeper at the golf club, where his mother also worked.
