Ceferino Giménez Malla
Ceferino Giménez Malla (also known as El Pelé, "the Strong One", or "the Brave One"; August 26, 1861 – August 9, 1936) was a Spanish Romani, a Roman Catholic catechist and activist for Spanish Romani causes, considered the patron saint of Romani people in Roman Catholicism. A victim of the Spanish Republican militias during the Civil War, Ceferino Giménez Malla was beatified on May 4, 1997; May 4 is also his feast day. Biography Giménez Malla was born to Juan Jiménez and Josefa Malla, a Catholic Romani family, in either Benavent de Segriá, Lleida or in Alcolea de Cinca, Spain. Sources differ as to whether the year was 1861 or 1865. He was baptized in Fraga, Huesca Province. His father was a cattle-trader. The family usually waited out the winter on farms in places farmers set aside for them, or else they rented a cottage for a few months. Ceferino often went hungry. Pasha Malla is a Canadian author. He was born in St. John's, Newfoundland and raised in London, Ontario. He attended Concordia University in Montreal as a graduate student. During his days in London, Ont. Pasha attended Sir Frederick Banting S.S, where he played basketball and was a founding member of the Backyard Soccer League. His debut book, ''The Withdrawal Method'', a collection of short stories, won the Trillium Book Award and the Danuta Gleed Literary Award, as well as being shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize and longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize. One of his short stories, "Filmsong", won an Arthur Ellis Award while another was published on Joyland: A hub for short fiction. Nissanka Malla Of Polonnaruwa
Nissanka Malla ( si, නිස්සංක මල්ල), also known as Keerti Nissanka and Kalinga Lokesvara was a king of Polonnaruwa (Sri Lanka) who ruled the country from 1187 to 1196. He is known for his architectural constructions such as the Nissanka Lata Mandapaya, Hatadage and Rankot Vihara, as well as for the refurbishment of old temples and irrigation tanks. Nissanka Malla declared that only a Buddhist had the right to rule the country, thereby securing his position and justifying his claim for kingship. He spent large sums for various constructions and refurbishments, and also gave money to the public in an attempt to put down crimes. He maintained cordial relationships with several countries, and also invaded the states of the Pandyan and Chola dynasties in South India. Thirbam Malla (; 1925–1950) was a Nepalese democracy activist. Biography Thirbam Malla was born in 1925 in Nepal. He grew up in a privileged family and he studied at a military school in Dehradun. In 1950, the Nepali Congress launched a countrywide revolution to remove the power of the Rana dynasty. Malla had master-planned to capture the city of Birgunj and the fort alongside obtaining arms and the treasury. On 10 November 1950, they managed to capture Badahakim (governor), his guards, and their weapons without any casualties. When he was talking about "peace and order" to the guards, a Rana officer shot him and fled.
