The Mall at Johnson City is an enclosed shopping mall in Johnson City, Tennessee, United States. The mall features over 90 stores and a food court. It is managed by Washington Prime Group. Opened in 1971, the mall features Dick's Sporting Goods, two Belk locations, and JCPenney as anchor stores, with more than 90 inline tenants. History Beginnings Construction began on the mall in the very early 1970s and opened on March 17, 1971. When completed this one story mall was the second in the Tri Cities. The mall had two major anchors, a grocery store, drug store, a McCrory five and dime, and a movie theater. Several stores local to the Tri-Cities area were also featured. The mall originally had the name "Miracle Mall Shopping Center". Johnson City is a city in Washington, Carter, and Sullivan counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee, mostly in Washington County. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 71,046, making it the eighth largest city in Tennessee. Johnson City is the principal city of the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers Carter, Unicoi, and Washington counties and had a combined population of 200,966 as of 2013. The MSA is also a component of the Johnson City– Kingsport–Bristol, Tennessee–Virginia Combined Statistical Area – commonly known as the " Tri-Cities" region. This CSA is the fifth-largest in Tennessee with an estimated 500,530 residents. Hook's Drug Stores was an Indianapolis, Indiana-based drug store chain which was founded in 1900 by John A. Hook. The chain flourished throughout central Indiana for most of the 20th-century. Hook's did business under its own banner, the SupeRX Drug Stores banner outside its core market, and the Brooks Pharmacy banner after acquiring the New England pharmacy chain. The entire company was eventually purchased by fellow Midwestern drugstore chain Revco. Most former Hook's locations that are still open operate as CVS, which bought out Revco in the late 1990s and rebranded their stores as CVS. Charming Charlie is a women's contemporary fashion and accessories retailer based in Houston, Texas. History Launched in 2004 by founder and former chief executive officer, Charlie Chanaratsopon, the brand is known for offering a wide array of women's apparel and fashion accessories, beauty, gifts and more, all arranged by color. Charming Charlie filed for bankruptcy in 2017, but attempted to reorganize and continue operations.
