Maldwyn James
David Maldwyn James (28 June 1913 – 19 July 2003) was a Welsh international rugby union player. Born in Cilfynydd, Glamorgan, he attended Pontypridd Boys Grammar School before working underground as a collier for the Albion Colliery, Cilfynydd. During the early 1930s he played rugby for Cilfynydd RFC and Pontypridd RFC in the position of hooker, although he was also a skilled goal-kicker and all-rounder. In 1937 and 1938 he was selected for the Wales international trials but a severe injury to his right foot kept him away from the game until 1941. In 1945 he joined Cardiff RFC, contributing 145 points to the season, and eventually making 85 appearances for the club. During his time at Cardiff he played in four 'Victory' internationals for Wales at the end of the Second World War. Caps were not awarded for these matches. Maldwyn Jones
Maldwyn Allen Jones (18 December 1922 – 12 April 2007) was a historian who specialised in American history. Jones studied at Jesus College, Oxford, from 1946 to 1949, obtaining a first-class degree in history. He was a lecturer at Manchester University before becoming chairman of the British Association for American Studies in 1968 and Commonwealth Professor of American History at University College London in 1971. His most famous work was the synthesis '' The Limits of Liberty: American History 1607-1980'', a volume in the " Short Oxford History of the Modern World" series, published in 1983. This remains the most comprehensive single-authored book on American history. Maldwyn Evans
Maldwyn Lewis Evans (8 November 1937 – 30 December 2009), often known as "Mal" Evans, was a Welsh bowls champion, who won the World Championship in 1972. He is the only Welshman ever to have held the men's singles title. Personal life Evans was born in Gelli, Rhondda. His father, Clifford Maldwyn Evans, won the Welsh Pairs Championship in 1952 with his brother (Maldwyn's uncle) John Morgan Evans (1917-1985), a world-class player. Maldwyn Evans was educated at Pentre Secondary School and later obtained a degree in history from University College of North Wales Bangor. He worked as a teacher in Swansea, Porth, Tonypandy and Ferndale. Bowls career Evans played bowls for Wales from 1967 until 1985, and he was a member of the Gelli Park club. Mal Pope
Maldwyn "Mal" Pope (born 18 May 1960) is a Welsh musician and composer, who is notable for his contribution to music theatre portraying Welsh national identities and themes. He lives in the village of Mumbles, Swansea. He is best known for singing the Welsh and British theme song of Fireman Sam from series one to four. Early life and career Pope was born in Brynhyfryd, Swansea, Wales, into a family of teachers. He began learning to play the guitar aged seven and was soon writing songs. In the early 1970s Pope sent a tape of songs to BBC Radio 1 presenter John Peel, who invited Pope to perform at the BBC. The session resulted in a recording contract with Elton John's record label named The Rocket Record Company. Whilst studying at Christ's College, Cambridge, he spent much of his holidays recording in London.
