Malcomson And Higginbotham
Malcomson and Higginbotham was an architectural firm started in the nineteenth century and based in Detroit, Michigan. A successor firm, Malcomson-Greimel and Associates, still exists in Rochester, Michigan as of 2010. History Architects William G. Malcomson and William E. Higginbotham formed a partnership in 1890. The firm was retained by the Detroit Board of Education in 1895, and between 1895 and 1923 had designed over 75% of the school buildings in Detroit. The firm remained in business under various names until the present. William G. Malcomson William George Malcomson was born in 1856 in Hamilton, Ontario. He began his architectural career early, and in 1875 supervised the construction of the Henry Langley-designed Erie Street United Church in Ridgetown, Ontario. In 1882, Malcomson married Jennie E. Northeastern High School (Michigan)
Northeastern High School was a public coeducational high school in Detroit, Michigan. It was a member of the Detroit Public Schools and was located on Grandy Street between Warren Avenue and Forest Avenue on the city's northeast side. The school competed athletically in the Detroit Public School League and was a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association. In 1975, the school won the MHSAA girls state basketball championship. In early 1982, it was announced that Northeastern was one of 19 Detroit schools listed for closure. It closed later that year. Duane Doty School
The Duane Doty School is a school building located at 10225 3rd Street in Detroit, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011. It is the oldest Arts and Crafts-style school building in Detroit, and likely one of the oldest Arts and Crafts-style schools in Michigan. History The Duane Doty School was named after former Superintendent of Schools for Detroit Duane Doty, who was appointed to that post in 1865. The original building was designed by Malcomson and Higginbotham, with construction starting in 1908 and ending in 1909. When it opened, the school contained 20 classrooms and was intended to hold 640 students from kindergarten through eighth grade. An addition costing $134,300 was completed in 1921, which added 320 students to the school's capacity. A gymnasium addition was constructed in 1928.
