Malcolm Pein
Malcolm Bernard Pein (born 14 August 1960) is a British chess player, chess organizer, author, and journalist. He holds the title of International Master. Chess biography Pein earned the title of International Master (IM) in 1986. Pein has been an influence in British chess for over thirty years, in the roles of player, coach, journalist, publisher, organizer, fundraiser, and entrepreneur. Pein won his first tournament in 1965 and was British Junior Champion in 1977. His most notable victories in tournament play include Jon Speelman, Vishy Anand and Lev Psakhis. In June 1992 he purchased Chess & Bridge Limited and set up a chess shop on the Euston Road in London which was relocated to Baker Street in 2010. In 1997 Pein was appointed as a consultant to IBM for the iconic Kasparov vs Deep Blue match. European Team Chess Championship
The European Team Championship (often abbreviated in texts and games databases as ''ETC'') is an international team chess event, eligible for the participation of European nations whose chess federations are located in zones 1.1 to 1.9. This more or less accords with the wider definition of Europe used in other events such as the Eurovision Song Contest and includes Israel, Russia and the former Soviet States. Vladimir Bagirov
Vladimir Konstantinovich Bagirov ( rus, Влади́мир Константи́нович Баги́ров; lv, Vladimirs Bagirovs; August 16, 1936 – July 21, 2000) was a Soviet- Latvian chess player, author, and trainer. He played in ten USSR Championships, with his best result being fourth place in his debut in 1960. Bagirov was world senior champion in 1998. He was the coach of Mikhail Tal and Garry Kasparov, both of which are considered to be among the greatest chess players of all time. Biography Vladimir Bagirov was born to an Armenian father and a Ukrainian mother in Baku. He showed chess talent as a youth, and came under the wing of the master and trainer Vladimir Makogonov. He made his debut in the semi-finals of the Soviet Championship in 1957, but did not advance to the final. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women.
