Christian Malcolm
Christian Sean Malcolm (born 3 June 1979) is a retired Welsh track and field athlete who specialised in the 200 metres. In 2020 he was appointed Head Coach of the British Athletics Olympic Programme. Early life Malcolm was born and was brought up in Newport, where he still lives. He is of Jamaican descent. When Malcolm was 15 years old, he was offered a contract by English football club Nottingham Forest, having had trials earlier with them and Queens Park Rangers as a young forward. In a 1998 interview, Malcolm claimed he chose athletics as in his view it is a "friendlier sport and you're not as likely to get kicked around the pitch". Education Malcolm was educated at two state schools in Newport: Eveswell Primary School and Hartridge High School. Lavinia Malcolm
Lavinia Malcolm ''nee'' Lavinia Laing (c. 1847 – 2 November 1920) was a Scottish suffragist and local Liberal politician, the first Scottish woman to be elected to a local council (1907) and one of the first women 'mayors' in the UK, as the first female Provost in Scotland in 1913: in the burgh of Dollar, Clackmannanshire. Early life and entry to politics She was born Lavinia Laing in Forres, daughter of an ironmonger and councillor, and granddaughter of a former Provost of Forres and became a teacher in Edinburgh. She appears as a "teacher of drawing" living at 3 Elder Street in Edinburgh's First New Town in 1875. Lavinia visited Dollar Institution (now Dollar Academy), and fell in love with one of its English teachers, Richard Malcolm FRSGS (1840–1926). Laura Malcolm (born 20 May 1991) is an English netball player who has been a co-captain of the national team. At club level, she is scheduled to play for Mainland Tactix during the 2023 ANZ Premiership season. She has previously played for Netball Superleague teams Manchester Thunder and Severn Stars. Club career Malcolm has played for Manchester Thunder and Severn Stars. She won the 2014 Netball Superleague with Manchester Thunder. Malcolm joined Severn Stars from Thunder in 2017, before returning to Thunder ahead of the 2019 season. She was part of the Thunder team that won the 2019 Netball Superleague. She was named in the 2021 Netball Superleague Team of the Year. In September 2021, Malcolm signed a new two-year contract with Manchester Thunder.
