Bertitik
Bertitik is the traditional folk music of the Sama-Bajau in Kota Belud, Sabah. According to the Kamus Dewan, bertitik means to beat or to forge. Bertitik will be played during the wedding ceremony, the evening before the henna night and during the henna night. This musical ensemble serves as a signal to inform the villagers of the ongoing ceremony. However, Bertitik will not be played when there is hardship or death in the village until the death period has passed for 40 days. Instruments The musical instruments used in Bertitik are gendang, gongs, bebandil, and kulintangan. These four musical instruments serve as one ensemble in the ceremony. If any of these musical instruments are not used, the ensemble will not produce a pleasant sound. This musical instrument will be played by those who are skilled in using it only. Rodat (dance)
Rodat is an Indonesian and Malay folk dance believed to have originated from the Middle East and was spread to the Indonesian archipelago by the Acehnese traders in the beginning of 19th century. Rodat may have been the combination of two words ''hadrat'' ''Baghdad'' which means zikir (songs in praise of Allah and Muhammad) Baghdad. Until the 1900s, Rodat was performed in all males groups with the original style of singing zikir with rebana accompaniment to celebrate Muhammad’s birthday and Malay weddings. However, by 1930, the dancing part was included and performed by transvestite dancers which were later replaced by the women dancers after World War II. With the addition of dancing and singing of popular Malay and Hindustani tunes and female dancers, the performance became popular at secular events such as the harvest celebration, Sultan’s birthday and festivities for Malaysian National Day. Sarawak Music Awards is a music award held in the Malaysian state of Sarawak. It is divided into three major events that are given the most attention by the fans, media, and record companies in Sarawak. Shortlisted as the Anugerah Musik Dayak (AMD) awards, Anugerah Juara Rentak Ruai (AJARR) awards and the Anugerah Carta Sapa Juara (ACSJ) awards. ''Anugerah Juara Lagu'' (literally: "Song Championship Award"), commonly known by the acronym AJL, is a popular annual music competition in Malaysia, organised by TV3 since 1986. It features the best musical and lyrical compositions of each year it is held. ''Anugerah Industri Muzik'' (literally: "Music Industry Award"), commonly known by the acronym AIM, is an award ceremony which celebrates the Malaysian music industry. Malaysian underground music and idealism is popular locally and overseas. Malaysian youth are typically into the punk culture (including hardcore and its other subgenre).
