Malaquías Concha
Malaquías Concha Ortíz (5 April 1859 – 5 August 1921) was a Chilean writer, lawyer and politician. Biography Early life Her parents were Raimundo Concha Rodríguez and Juana María Ortiz Lobos. He studied at the Colegio del Padre Concha and the Liceo de Talca. Then he moved to Santiago to study Law at University of Chile, from which he graduated in 1881. He graduated as a lawyer on 24 December 1880. Political career His political participation began in his university years. When he was 22, he installed his law firm and acquired renown and prestige due to his dedication to defend people's causes without financial means. He joined the Radical Party and he separated from it in 1887 to create the Democratic Party. There, he promoted political life democratization through universal suffrage or secular and free education. Lautaro is a city and commune of the Cautín Province in Chile's Araucanía Region. The area is named in honor of Lautaro, Mapuche leader (''toqui'') during the War of Arauco. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Lautaro spans an area of and has 32,218 inhabitants (15,991 men and 16,227 women). History Of Chile During The Parliamentary Era (1891–1925)
The Parliamentary Era in Chile began in 1891, at the end of the Civil War, and spanned until 1925 and the establishment of the 1925 Constitution. Also called "pseudo-parliamentary" period or "Parliamentary Republic", this period was thus named because it established a quasi-parliamentary system based on the interpretation of the 1833 Constitution following the defeat of President José Manuel Balmaceda during the Civil War. As opposed to a "true parliamentary" system, the executive was not subject to the legislative power but checks and balances of executive over the legislature were weakened. The President remained the head of state but its powers and control of the government were reduced. The Parliamentary Republic lasted until the 1925 Constitution drafted by President Arturo Alessandri and his minister José Maza. Juan Luis Sanfuentes
Juan Luis Sanfuentes Andonaegui (; 27 December 1858 – 16 July 1930) was President of Chile between 1915 and 1920. Sanfuentes was the son of writer and politician Salvador Sanfuentes Torres and Matilde Andonaegui. Orphaned at an early age and raised by his older brother, Enrique Salvador Sanfuentes, he trained as a lawyer at the University of Chile. He graduated with a Doctor of Law in 1879. He married Ana Echazarreta (ca. 1865–1927) in 1885, and the couple had five children. Rising to the position of Minister of Finance under Federico Errázuriz Echaurren in 1901, Sanfuentes served as President of the Senate of Chile from 1906 through 1909. Llaima
The Llaima Volcano is one of the largest and most active volcanoes in Chile. It is situated 82 km East of Temuco and 663 km South of Santiago, within the borders of Conguillío National Park. Geography The top of Llaima consists of two summits; the lower of the two, Pichillaima, is about high and is significantly less prominent than the higher northern summit. The average elevation of the terrain around Llaima is about 740 m asl. The volcano summit is located 10 km West South West of Conguillío Lake. Nueva Imperial (New Imperial, in English) a city and commune in the south of Chile. It is located in Cautín Province in the Araucanía Region. Nueva Imperial lies about to the west of Temuco, the regional capital. Temuco
Temuco () is a city and commune, capital of the Cautín Province and of the Araucanía Region in southern Chile. The city is located south of Santiago. The city grew out from a fort of the same name established in 1881 during Chile's invasion of Araucanía. Temuco lies in the middle of the historic Araucanía, a traditional land of the indigenous Mapuche.
