Mal St. Clair
Malcolm St. Clair (May 17, 1897 – June 1, 1952) was a Hollywood film director, writer, producer and actor. Biography A disciple of Mack Sennett, St. Clair was an actor in many films primarily comedies. At 6'7" he can be seen in such Sennett films as ''Yankee Doodle in Berlin'', towering over the other actors, playing Crown Prince Wilhelm. He later moved on to director and directed almost 100 films, as well as producing five others, between 1915 and 1948. His brother, Eric St Clair, was a writer and actor. He directed most of Laurel and Hardy's later films at 20th Century Fox, and at least two of the Jones Family series at the same studio. St. Clair retired in 1948 with the closure of 20th Century Fox's B Unit. In 1950, he wanted to direct Buster Keaton in a television series, but ill health prevented him from directing again. He died on June 1, 1952, at age 55 and was interred at Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Altadena, California. Partial filmography * '' ... It was released on September 28, 1925, by Paramount Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine reviews, Grace Hyatt suspects her businessman husband William of being infatuated with his shoe designer from Paris. Several situations develop which make it appear that William is interested in the young woman. Al Hennessey tells Grace that he and William have visited the woman's apartment. William becomes so uncomfortable with the situation at home that he leaves for a summer hotel. Grace determines that she will get a divorce. ''The Boudoir Diplomat'' is a 1930 American pre-Code romantic comedy film directed by Malcolm St. Clair, produced and distributed by Universal Pictures, from the play ''The Command To Love'' by Fritz Gottwald and Rudolph Lothar. The film is preserved at the Library of Congress. Plot Ian Keith plays a French military attaché in Madrid who romantically pursues the wives of various government officials. Betty Compson and Mary Duncan play the objects of his attention. Release The film opened to much fan-fare on December 5, 1930. According to Mordaunt Hall's review of the film, the lobby in New York's showcase theater, the Globe, was elaborately decorated for the film's run "with pink silk and photographs with violet borders." The Canary Murder Case is a 1929 American Pre-Code crime-mystery film based on the 1927 novel of the same name by S.S. Van Dine (the pseudonym for Willard Huntington Wright). The film was directed by Malcolm St. Clair, with a screenplay by Wright (under the Van Dine pseudonym), Albert Shelby LeVino, and Florence Ryerson.
