Maktab (in Arabic مكتب) from the Arabic word ''kataba'' or write, refers to a school, or a business office. Arabic Language

Kuttab
A kuttab ( ar, كُتَّاب ''kuttāb'', plural: ''kataatiib'', ) or maktab ( ar, مَكْتَب) is a type of elementary school in the Muslim world. Though the ''kuttab'' was primarily used for teaching children in reading, writing, grammar, and Islamic studies, such as memorizing and reciting the Qur'an (including ''Qira'at''), other practical and theoretical subjects were also often taught. The kuttāb represents an old-fashioned method of education in Muslim majority countries, in which a sheikh teaches a group of students who sit in front of him on the ground. Until the 20th century, when modern schools developed, kuttabs were the prevalent means of mass education in much of the Islamic world. Name Kuttab refers to only elementary schools in Arabic. Amin Maktab
Amin Maktab, established in 1961, is a special education center for mentally disabled children located in Gulberg, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Amin Maktab is the oldest institution in Lahore for intellectually disabled children. History Amin Maktab School was established in small rented building in October 1961 by the Pakistan Society for the Welfare of Retarded Children. In 1987, a multi-purpose campus in J-block of Gulberg was designed by the local Architect Fuad Ali Butt and was built by Engineer Khalid Khan, a local builder. In 1991, an outreach programme was started, with the aid from UNICEF, for the purpose of spreading awareness as well as providing services and training to the homes of mentally disabled children in economically depressed areas of Lahore. Currently, the management of Amin Maktab is handled by now retired Justice Aamer Raza Khan. Maktab Khana
The Maktab Khana (meaning "House of Translation") was a bureau of records and translation established by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in Fatehpur Sikri around 1574. Emperor Akbar commissioned his most talented scribes and secretaries to translate the major texts of India from Sanskrit into Persian and to illustrate the manuscripts in the royal workshops. These texts included the ''Mahabharata'' into the ''Razmnāma'' (Persian: رزم نامہ, lit. ''Book of War''), the ''Ramayana'', and the ''Rajatarangini''. Various Arabic encyclopedias and histories were also translated, as well as the entirety of the ''Baburnama'', the memoirs of Akbar's grandfather and founder of the Mughal dynasty, Babur. With this bureau, Akbar aspired to "form a basis for a united search for truth" and "enable the people to understand the true spirit of their religion." Maktab Al-Khidamat
The ''Maktab al-Khidamat'' () was an Arab charitable organization founded in 1984 by Abdullah Azzam, Osama bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri and other volunteers during the Soviet–Afghan War, It raised funds and recruited foreign mujahideen for the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan. The group became the forerunner to al-Qaeda and was instrumental in creating the fundraising and recruitment network that benefited al-Qaeda during the 1990s. During the Soviet–Afghan War, MAK played a minimal role, training a small group of 100 mujahideen for the war and disbursing approximately $1 million in donations from Muslims sourced via a network of global offices in Arab and Western countries, allegedly including approximately thirty in the United States. MAK maintained a close liaison with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency through which the intelligence agency of Saudi Arabia, Al Mukhabarat Al A'amah, funneled money to the Mujaheddin. Maktab Nasional (''National College'' in English) is a private Catholic mission secondary school located in Likas, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. The MARA Junior Science College (MJSC) ( ms, Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM)) is a group of boarding schools created by Majlis Amanah Rakyat ( MARA), a Malaysian government agency. Maktab-e Tawhid (also Maktab-e Tawhīd) was a Shi'i seminary for women, established in Qom, Iran's clerical center in 1975, as a wing of the Haghani school.
