''Making Patterns Rhyme'' is a tribute album devoted to Duran Duran, as well as a charity record to benefit Amnesty International. Among the artists who appear on the album are Moby, Warpaint, Soko, Austra, Luxxury, and Carina Round. ''Making Patterns Rhyme'' was released on 24 October 2014 by Manimal Vinyl. The title derives from the lyrics of " Planet Earth", a song on Duran Duran's 1981 debut album. Manimal Vinyl is a Los Angeles-based record label founded in 2006 by film/TV producer, composer and former fashion editor Paul Gebser-Beahan. History The label was started out of Beahan's living room in late 2006 in the historical Hancock Park neighborhood in central Hollywood. They released debut albums from Bat for Lashes, Warpaint and many other exclusive releases from avant-garde pop artists ranging from Yoko Ono, Moby, Duran Duran, Carla Bruni, IC3PEAK, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Devendra Banhart, Asia Argento and more. Manimal has created tribute albums to Madonna, The Cure, David Bowie and Duran Duran with the tributees involvement. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, Manimal hosted three medium scale music festivals in Joshua Tree, California at the Pappy & Harriet's venue. Line-ups mostly included the labels artists, alumni and friends. ''Duran Duran'' is the debut studio album by the English new wave band Duran Duran, which was released on 15June 1981 by EMI. After signing a record contract, the band recorded the album at several London studios between December 1980 and January 1981, with production by Colin Thurston. Although the instrumental tracks were recorded quickly, singer Simon Le Bon initially struggled to sing in the studio; this led to discussions about replacing him before EMI employee Dave Ambrose intervened. The band were influenced at this time by a variety of artists, including David Bowie, the Human League, Ultravox, Roxy Music, Japan and Chic. "Rio" is the seventh single by English new wave band Duran Duran. It was first released as a single in Australia, in August 1982, followed by a UK release on 1 November 1982. The song was the fourth, final, and title single lifted from the band's second studio album of the same name, and was edited for its release. It was issued worldwide in October 1982 and became a Top 10 hit in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at number 9 on 11 December 1982. "Rio" was released as the third single from the album in Australia, and debuted on the Kent Music Report top 100 singles chart dated 6 September 1982. The song did not attract much notice in the United States upon its initial global release, but received early airplay at KROQ-FM in Los Angeles as early as 2 August 1982. Do You Believe In Shame?
"Do You Believe In Shame?" is a song by British band Duran Duran released on 10 April 1989 as the final single from their 1988 album '' Big Thing''. Background The song was dedicated to three of the band's dead friends: record producer Alex Sadkin, artist Andy Warhol and Simon Le Bon's childhood friend David Miles. Le Bon has since said that "Shame" is the first part of a trilogy of songs written as a tribute to Miles, the other songs being " Ordinary World" and " Out of My Mind". ''Cash Box'' said that the song "is a shameless ripoff of ' Suzie Q.' Same feel, same melody. And not surprisingly, it’s the best thing we’ve heard out of D.D." There was a successful legal challenge over the close resemblance of the melody of "Do You Believe In Shame?" to that of the Dale Hawkins classic "Suzie Q" (more famously covered by Creedence Clearwater Revival and The Rolling Stones). Halo Circus
Halo Circus was an American electronic duo. Formed as a four-piece band in 2013, founding musicians Allison Iraheta and Matthew Hager re-established Halo Circus as a duo in 2018. History Halo Circus was formed in 2013. Iraheta, a finalist on the American Idol (season 8), eighth season of ''American Idol'', had released her debut album, ''Just Like You (Allison Iraheta album), Just Like You,'' on Jive Records, Jive in 2009. While touring in support of the album, she met Hager, a songwriter, musician, and producer. After Iraheta recorded vocals on a song Hager had been working on, they began to write together, and later decided to form a band. They recruited drummer Valerie Franco and guitarist David Immerman, both of whom had performed previously with Iraheta, and founded Halo Circus. "Union of the Snake" is the ninth single by the English new wave band Duran Duran, released on 17 October 1983. It was the lead single from the band's third album ''Seven and the Ragged Tiger'' (1983), and preceded its release by one month. It became one of Duran Duran's most popular singles, hitting number one on the US '' Cash Box'' and peaking at number three on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks at the end of 1983. Careless Memories
"Careless Memories" is the second single by Duran Duran, released on 20 April 1981. The band's debut single "Planet Earth" had been a Top 20 hit, so it was regarded as a major setback when "Careless Memories" stalled at No. 37 in the UK charts, particularly as it was to herald the June release of the debut album '' Duran Duran''. It has since come to light that the decision to release the single was not the band's but EMI's. After its failure, executives decided to let Duran Duran choose their own single releases. The band's first selection was "Girls on Film" and it duly became their first Top 5 hit in the UK. "Girls on Film" is the third single by English new wave band Duran Duran, released on 13 July 1981. The single became Duran Duran's Top 10 breakthrough in the UK Singles Chart, peaking at Number 5 in July 1981. The band personally selected the song for release following the failure of its predecessor, " Careless Memories", which had been chosen by their record company, EMI. Its popularity provided a major boost to sales of the band's eponymous debut studio album, ''Duran Duran'', which had been released a month earlier. The song did not chart in the United States on its initial release, but it became popular and widely known after receiving heavy airplay on MTV when the ''Duran Duran'' album was re-issued in 1983. "The Wild Boys" is the twelfth single by English new wave band Duran Duran, released on 26 October 1984 in the United Kingdom. The song was the only studio track on the band's live album ''Arena'' (1984), and was produced by Nile Rodgers, who had previously remixed the band's previous single "The Reflex". It was recorded at the end of July 1984 at Maison Rouge Studios in London. Background The idea for the song came from longtime Duran Duran video director Russell Mulcahy, who wanted to make a full-length feature film based on the surreal and sexual 1971 novel '' The Wild Boys: A Book of the Dead'' by William S. Burroughs. He suggested that the band might create a modern soundtrack for the film in the same way that Queen would later provide a rock soundtrack for Mulcahy's 1986 film '' Highlander''. The Chauffeur
''Rio'' is the second studio album by English new wave band Duran Duran, released on 10May 1982 through EMI Records. The band wrote and demoed most of the material before recording the album at AIR Studios in London from January to March 1982. Colin Thurston returned from their 1981 self-titled debut studio album as producer. The band utilised more experimentation compared to the debut, from vibraphone and marimba to the sound of a cigarette being lit and cracking ice cubes. Andy Hamilton played a saxophone solo on "Rio". A new wave album with musical elements ranging from dance to synth-pop, ''Rio'' is mostly composed of fast, upbeat numbers, along with a couple slower synthesiser-based ballads. Lead vocalist Simon Le Bon's obtuse lyrics cover topics from chasing one's dreams to pursuing a love interest. "Planet Earth" is the debut single by the British pop rock band Duran Duran, released on 2 February 1981. It was an immediate hit in the band's native UK, reaching #12 on the UK Singles Chart on 21 February, and did even better in Australia, hitting #8 to become Duran Duran's first Top 10 hit anywhere in the world. The song later appeared on the band's eponymous debut album ''Duran Duran'', released in June 1981. About the song "Planet Earth" begins with a mid-tempo synthesised sweep backed with sequenced electronic rhythm, but the real rhythm section of throbbing bass and crisp drums soon kick in. Muted guitar carries the up-and-down throbbing as the singer joins in. The sequenced part on this song is a Prophet-5 synth, while a Roland Jupiter-4 and a Crumar Performer were used for strings and other sounds.
