Makedonska Kamenica ( mk, Македонска Каменица ) is a municipality in eastern North Macedonia. ''Makedonska Kamenica'' is also the name of the town where the municipal seat is found. The municipality is part of Eastern Statistical Region. Geography The municipality borders Kriva Palanka Municipality in the north, Bulgaria and Delčevo Municipality to the east, Kočani Municipality to the west, and Vinica Municipality, North Macedonia, Vinica Municipality to the south. Sasa (village)
Sasa ( mk, Саса) is a rural village in the municipality of Makedonska Kamenica, North Macedonia. It is located on an average 1000 metres above sea level. History The village and surrounding mines were set up by Saxons, which settled north-eastern Macedonia in Middle Ages. The name Sasa originates from German Saxons, as Sasa is the traditional name for a Saxon in Macedonian. Economy A major part of Sasa's economy is focused around the German-built lead and zinc mine, called Sasies. Constructed in the seventieth century, it has become a major lead and zinc extraction facility in the Balkans. The surrounding village is populated by around 1000 civilians; most are lower class and since the reopening of the mine in the 1960s, much of the male population has become miners. Macedonians ( mk, Македонци, Makedonci) are a nation and a South Slavic ethnic group native to the region of Macedonia in Southeast Europe. They speak Macedonian, a South Slavic language. The large majority of Macedonians identify as Eastern Orthodox Christians, who speak a South Slavic language, and share a cultural and historical "Orthodox Byzantine–Slavic heritage" with their neighbours. About two-thirds of all ethnic Macedonians live in North Macedonia and there are also communities in a number of other countries.
