Major Public Appointments Select Committee
The Major Public Appointments Select Committee (Malay: Jawatankuasa Pilihan Khas Untuk Melantik Jawatan-Jawatan Utama Perkhidmatan Awam; ; Tamil: மலேசியா பொது சேவை தேர்வுக் குழுவை நியமிக்கிறது) is one of many select committees of the Malaysian House of Representatives, which scrutinises appointments of personnel to government-linked agencies (GLCs), government institutions and the civil service. It is among six new bipartisan parliamentary select committees announced by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof, on 4 December 2018 in an effort to improve the institutional system. Dewan Rakyat
The Dewan Rakyat (English: 'House of Representatives'; ) is the lower house of the bicameral Parliament, the federal legislature of Malaysia. The chamber and its powers are established by Article 44 of the Constitution of Malaysia. The Dewan Rakyat sits in the Houses of Parliament in Kuala Lumpur, along with the Dewan Negara, the upper house. The Dewan Rakyat is a directly elected body consisting of 222 members known as Members of Parliament (MPs). Members are elected by first-past-the-post voting with one member from each federal constituency. Members hold their seats until the Dewan Rakyat is dissolved, the term of which is constitutionally limited to five years after an election. The Democratic Action Party (abbreviation: DAP; ms, Parti Tindakan Demokratik; ; ta, ஜனநாயக செயல் கட்சி) is a Centre-left politics, centre-left social democracy, social democratic political party in Malaysia. As one of four component parties of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, it formed the federal government after defeating Barisan Nasional in the 2018 Malaysian general election, ending the party's 53 year-long stay in the opposition. William Leong
William Leong Jee Keen (; born 27 January 1957) is a Malaysian politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Selayang since March 2008 and Chair of the Major Public Appointments Select Committee since December 2018. He is a member of the People's Justice Party (PKR), a component party of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition coalition. He has also served as the Treasurer-General of PKR since July 2022. Personal life Leong is also a lawyer, and has three children. Political career Leong was elected to Parliament in the 2008 Malaysian general election, winning the seat of Selayang from the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition.
