'' Majoor Frans '' is a 1916 Dutch silent film, silent drama film directed by Maurits Binger. Plot Wealthy John von Zwenken (Louis H. Chrispijn) lives with his daughter and son-in-law in a castle named ''De Werve''. One day, he returns from hunting and is informed that a new child has been welcomed in the family. Disappointed and ashamed that the child is a girl, John introduces her to his friends and staff as a boy. Shortly after the delivery, the mother dies and the baby is left in John's hands. Twelve years later, young Frans (Lily Bouwmeester) lives an unusual life, having been raised as a boy by John and sgt. Rolf (Willem Hunsche). Her nanny's (Paula de Waart) attempts to teach her how to be a girl have been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, the Colonel receives a visit from his son Rudolf (Willem van der Veer), who has been living a joyful but expensive student life in Leiden, Netherlands, Leiden). Annie Bos
Johanna "Annie" Bos (10 December 1886 – 3 August 1975) was a Dutch theater and silent film actress, known as Holland's first movie star and diva. Bos started her acting career in Antwerp, but soon returned to the Netherlands and made her theater debut in 1909. She played mostly bit parts, until she was discovered by movie director Maurits Binger. Binger had just opened his movie studio Hollandia and contracted Bos as the leading lady of the movies. She made her first film appearance in the film ''De Levende Ladder''. Over the next years, she became a well recognized actress, being nicknamed "the Dutch Asta Nielsen". In 1916, Bos starred in ''Majoor Frans'' (1916) and became Holland's first star. She got opportunities to choose her own film roles and attempted to prove her acting skills by playing roles with opposite characters. Nola Hatterman
Nola Hatterman (12 August 1899 – 8 May 1984) was a Dutch actress and painter. Hatterman was born in Amsterdam as an only child in a large house on the Middenweg in the Watergraafsmeer district. Her father was an accountant with Mirandolle, Voûte & Co. She drew and painted from a young age and followed an education at the gymnasium. Among her school friends were many Indonesian students whose parents were affiliated with her father's offices. Later she would reminisce about these early friendships and explain that they were the seed for her passion for painting colored people. Acting career In 1914 she continued to paint, but chose to study at the Amsterdam Acting school (Toneel Academie). In 1918 she joined the Rotterdam acting house NV Het Rotterdams Toneel.
