Griba is a massif situated in the Upper Kurvelesh region, within the boundaries of Tepelenë municipality, in southern Albania. Its highest peak, ''Maja e Këndrevicës'', reaches a height of . Other high peaks include Maja e Tartarit , Maja e Kulthit , Maja e Sorrës , Maja e Lopsit , etc. Geology The massif features a cone-shaped body with steep inclines and a flat peak and is composed primarily of Mesozoic and Paleogene limestones, with lesser amounts of flysch, giving it an asymmetrical anticlinal structure. Its ridge is marked by numerous karst pits and evidence of quaternary glaciations can be seen with the presence of cirques and moraines. Biodiversity Vegetation is sparse but there are plenty of summer pastures and a variety of medicinal plants. In Dhëmblan, the laurel forest has been designated a protected nature reserve. Southern Mountain Region (Albania)
The Southern Mountain Region ( sq, Krahina Malore Jugore) is a physiogeographical region in southern Albania. It is defined by high mountains and few valleys and plains between them. It is also one of the four geographical areas of Albania, the others being the Northern Mountain Range (the Albanian part of the Prokletije), the Western Lowlands ( sq, Ultësira Bregdetare), and the Central Mountain Range ( sq, Krahina Malore Qendrore). The range notably includes two mountain chains: the Trebeshinë- Dhëmbel- Nemërçkë and Shëndelli- Lunxhëri- Bureto. Tepelenë
Tepelenë ( sq-definite, Tepelena) is a city and a municipality in Gjirokastër County, in the south of Albania. The town is located on the left bank of the Vjosa River, about three kilometres downstream from its union with the Drino. Until the abolition of Districts of Albania, Districts in 2000, Tepelenë was the seat of the Tepelenë District. Its location is strategically important and there is a ruined citadel occupying a point 300 metres above the river. Ali Pasha of Tepelenë was born at the nearby village of Beçisht. Flysch () is a sequence of sedimentary rock layers that progress from deep-water and turbidity flow deposits to shallow-water shales and sandstones. It is deposited when a deep basin forms rapidly on the continental side of a mountain building episode. Kurvelesh (region)
Kurvelesh is a region in southern Albania, within the Southern Mountain Range. In the region, which is divided into the communes of Brataj, Horë-Vranisht, Kurvelesh and Picar, fifteen villages are located. It is considered to be the heart of the larger Labëria region. The Kurvelesh region is inhabited by Lab Albanians. In structural geology, an anticline is a type of fold that is an arch-like shape and has its oldest beds at its core, whereas a syncline is the inverse of an anticline.
