Maine State Route 167
State Route 167 (SR 167) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways. It runs from an intersection with U.S. Route 1 (US 1A) in Presque Isle to a junction with US 1A in Fort Fairfield. The route was originally designated in 1925, and ran between Lincoln and the Canada–United States border at Vanceboro. In 1936, the number was given to a route between Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield. At the time, SR 167 shared part of its alignment with SR 163, but was eventually moved to its own route. In 1940, with the designation of US 1A over an old section of SR 161, the orphaned section of SR 161 between Fort Fairfield and the border was renumbered to SR 167. The pavement entered Canada as New Brunswick Route 190. SR 161 has since been returned to its original routing past Fort Fairfield therefore truncating SR 167 to US 1A. Presque Isle is the commercial center and largest city in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 8,797 at the 2020 Census. The city is home to the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Northern Maine Community College, Husson University Presque Isle, Northern Maine Fairgrounds, The Aroostook Centre Mall, and the Presque Isle International Airport. Aroostook County ( ; french: Comté d'Aroostook) is a county in the U.S. state of Maine along the Canada–U.S. border. As of the 2020 census, the population was 67,105. Its county seat is Houlton, with offices in Caribou and Fort Kent. Vanceboro, Maine
Vanceboro is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States. The town was named after landowner William Vance. The main village in town is located at the eastern terminus of Maine State Route 6. Vanceboro is across the St. Croix River from St. Croix, New Brunswick, Canada, to which it is connected by the Saint Croix–Vanceboro Bridge. State Route 163 (SR 163) is a state highway in the northern part of Maine, United States. It runs between Ashland at SR 11 and Presque Isle at SR 167, entirely in Aroostook County. Route description SR 163 begins in Ashland's business district at Main Street (SR 11). It heads due east along Presque Isle Road passing some gas stations, markets, Ashland District School, and houses. The road leaves the town center and enters a more rural area with it surrounded mostly by wooded areas. It curves to the northeast and enters the unincorporated Central Aroostook territory. It then curves back to the east where it enters the town of Castle Hill. SR 163 makes another curve to the northeast where it climbs a hill to the south of Haystack Mountain. State Route 161 (SR 161) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways. It runs from Fort Fairfield to Allagash. It begins at the Fort Fairfield - Andover Border Crossing along the Canada–US border to Dickey Road near the confluence of the Allagash and Saint John rivers. SR 161 runs through the communities of Fort Fairfield, Caribou, Woodland, New Sweden, Stockholm, New Canada, Fort Kent, St. John, St. Francis, and Allagash. Most of the portion that runs through Caribou has been re-routed, due to a bypass that was completed in 2012. New Brunswick Route 190
Route 190 is a -long east–west secondary highway in western New Brunswick, Canada. The route's western terminus is at the Canada/US Border between Carlingford, New Brunswick and Fort Fairfield, Maine. Route 190 travels east to the town of Perth-Andover where it ends at Route 130. In Perth-Andover, the route is called ''Fort Road''. History The road from Andover to the border near Fort Fairfield, Maine was originally designated as Route 7. It was renumbered as Route 19 in 1965 and Route 190 in 1984.
