Maigret Sees Red
''Maigret voit rouge'' (English: ''Maigret Sees Red'') is a 1963 French-Italian crime film directed by Gilles Grangier and starring Jean Gabin, Françoise Fabian and Roland Armontel. Based on the 1951 novel ''Maigret, Lognon and the Gangsters'' by Georges Simenon, it is Gabin's third appearance as Belgian writer Georges Simenon's fictional detective Jules Maigret. It was shot at the Billancourt Studios in Paris and on location across the city. The film's sets were designed by the art director Jacques Colombier. Synopsis A man is run down and injured by a car near the Gare du Nord. However, by the time the police arrive on the scene the victim has disappeared. Gilles Grangier (5 May 1911 – 27 April 1996) was a French film director and screenwriter. He directed more than 50 films and several TV series between 1943 and 1985. His film '' Archimède le clochard'' was entered into the 9th Berlin International Film Festival, where Jean Gabin won the Silver Bear for Best Actor. He had the most number of successful films at the French box office between 1945 and 2001 with 42 of his films having admissions of 500,000 or more, more than any other. Jules Maigret (), or simply Maigret, is a fictional French police detective, a '' commissaire'' ("commissioner") of the Paris ''Brigade Criminelle'' ('' Direction Régionale de la Police Judiciaire de Paris:36, Quai des Orfèvres''), created by writer Georges Simenon. The character's full name is Jules Amédée François Maigret. Paul Carpenter (8 December 1921 – 12 June 1964) was a Canadian actor and singer. Life and career Carpenter originally attended medical school in Montreal, but left aged 17 to join the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a war correspondent. He also played professional hockey in Canada. He moved to Britain and sang with Ted Heath and His Music in the 1940s and starred in the BBC Radio serial ''Riders of the Range'' (1949–1953) as the cowboy Jeff Arnold, where he shared the billing with his dog, Rustler (played by Percy Edwards).
