Maidstone is a suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District, located with the City of Maribyrnong local government area. Maidstone recorded a population of 9,389 at the . The suburb predominantly consists of residential areas. A large chunk of the north-western corner encompasses a private golf club and there is a small industrial zone in the centre. Maidstone is bounded by Suffolk Street to the south, Ashley Street to the west, along Summerhill Road and Rosamond Road to the east, and along Williamson Road and Rosamond Road to the north and north-east. History Maidstone was established in 1858. It was given the name after the town of Maidstone in Kent, England. Maidstone was predominantly made up of period weatherboard, brick Art Deco and Californian Bungalow houses constructed between the 1920s and 1940s. West Footscray Railway Station
West Footscray railway station is located on the Sunbury line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the western Melbourne suburb of West Footscray, and it opened on 1 October 1888 as Footscray West. It was renamed West Footscray on 1 September 1912. Two dual gauge tracks operate north of the station, forming the South Kensington – West Footscray freight line, linking the Port of Melbourne and other freight terminals to the rest of the state. The tracks also form part of the Melbourne – Sydney and Melbourne – Adelaide standard gauge lines. The Regional Rail Link lines operate to the south of the station. In 1976, the original station buildings were reconstructed. In 2013, the station was rebuilt 200 metres further west, to accommodate two lines to the south as part of the Regional Rail Link project. Moonee Ponds Junction
Moonee Ponds Junction is a bus and tram interchange on the junction of Ascot Vale Road / Pascoe Vale Road and Mount Alexander Road in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne (Puckle Street / Dean Street also meets at the same point). It is located approximately 400 metres east of Moonee Ponds station. In June 2015, Yarra Trams revealed plans to build a covered tram stop. The work was completed in January 2016. Trams It is served by Yarra Trams routes 59 and 82. Previously route 82 trams terminated at a separate platform south of the existing pair in the middle of the Ascot Vale Road. As part of the January 2016 rebuild, a headshunt was built to the north of the main platforms with route 82 now terminating at the main platform. Melbourne Tram Route 82
Melbourne tram route 82 is operated by Yarra Trams on the Melbourne tram network from Moonee Ponds Junction to Footscray railway station. It is one of only two tram routes which does not travel through the Melbourne CBD, the other being route 78. Part of its route is the last surviving segment of the Footscray tram network. It commenced operating on 2 May 1954. The 9.2 kilometre route is operated out of Essendon depot with Z class trams. The route passes Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong. A short section (less than 700 metres) of the route is a light rail reserve track parallel to Wests Road, Maribyrnong. The route overlaps route 57 between the intersection of Maribyrnong and Union Roads, Ascot Vale, and Raleigh and Wests Roads, Maribyrnong. Melbourne tram route 57 is operated by Yarra Trams on the Melbourne tram network from West Maribyrnong to Flinders Street station. The 11.6 kilometre route is operated out of Essendon depot with Z class trams. History Route 57 was first allocated to the line between West Maribyrnong and the City via North Melbourne on 22 December 1940 when the Maribyrnong line was extended from the Maribyrnong River to West Maribyrnong. Prior to that, the number was officially listed for the Ballarat Road line on the Footscray system, but was never used in practice since the single-truck trams used on that line didn't have route number boxes. Ballarat Road, Melbourne
Ballarat Road (in its westernmost part the Western Highway) is a major urban arterial road in the western suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. History Previously part of Western Highway, the road was bypassed as the main route through western Melbourne when the Deer Park bypass opened in 2009; the road name was devolved back to its original identity as Ballarat Road as a consequence, however, the route is still co-signed as Western Highway on older signs. The highway was originally designated in the 1969 Melbourne Transportation Plan as part of the F12 Freeway corridor. As a part of the Western Highway, the road was signed as National Route 8 in 1955.
