Mai 36 Galerie is an international contemporary art gallery, located in Zürich. The gallery was founded in 1987 by Victor Gisler. History In 1987, Victor Gisler founded Mai 36 Galerie in Lucerne. The opening show was held in February 1988 with Les Levine, on Maihofstrasse 36 in Lucerne. Since 1996, the gallery is located in the center of Zürich, next to Kunsthaus Zürich. With a focus on text-based art, new media and photography, the gallery showed in the early years of 1988/89 Lawrence Weiner, John Baldessari, Irma Blank, General Idea, Thomas Ruff, Robert Mapplethorpe as well as Ian Anüll, Christoph Rütimann and Rémy Zaugg. With these artists, Mai 36 developed a profile that has distinguished itself since its inception through a critical examination of art, politics, society and the mass media. Rémy Zaugg
Rémy Zaugg (January 11, 1943 – August 23, 2005) was a Swiss painter, primarily known as a conceptual artist. He played an important role as both a critic and observer of contemporary culture, especially with regards to the perception of space and architecture. Life Rémy Zaugg was born in 1943 in Courgenay, Jura, Switzerland. After attending high school in Porrentruy, he attended the Basel School of Art. In 1971 he received the "Eidgenössisches Kunststipendium" (now the Eidgenössische Preis für freie Kunst), a Swiss arts prize for young artists. Zaugg lived and worked in Basel, Switzerland, and Pfastatt, France. Primarily using text and the meaning of the word as the subject of his paintings, Zaugg dealt with themes of perception, examining the various facets of vision. Zona Maco
Zona Maco is an art fair organized since 2003 that takes place biannually during February and September in Mexico City. The fair comprises three events: Zona Maco Arte Contemporáneo showcases contemporary and modern artworks and design, Zona Maco Foto features vintage, modern and contemporary photography and video, and Salón del Anticuario hosts antiquarians. Frieze Art Fair
Frieze Art Fair is an international contemporary art fair in London, New York, and Los Angeles. Frieze London takes place every October in London's Regent's Park. In the US, the fair ran on New York's Randall's Island from 2012–19 and in 2021 was held in the Shed at Hudson Yards, with its inaugural Los Angeles edition taking place February 2019. The London edition normally has about 160 exhibitors in Frieze. It is held over four days in a 40,000SqM tent. There is a simultaneous Frieze Masters event showing older work with about 130 exhibitors, and a temporary sculpture park. In 2021 stand rental was £524 per sqM. Conceptual Art
Conceptual art, also referred to as conceptualism, is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic, technical, and material concerns. Some works of conceptual art, sometimes called installations, may be constructed by anyone simply by following a set of written instructions. Minimal Art
Minimalism describes movements in various forms of art and design, especially visual art and music, where the work is set out to expose the essence, essentials or identity of a subject through eliminating all non-essential forms, features or concepts. As a specific movement in the arts it is identified with developments in post–World War II Western Art, most strongly with American visual arts in the 1960s and early 1970s. Matt Mullican
Matt Mullican (born September 18, 1951) is an American artist and educator. He is the child of artists Lee Mullican and Luchita Hurtado. Mullican lives and works in both Berlin and New York City. Early life and education Matt Mullican was born on September 18, 1951 in Santa Monica, California to parents Lee Mullican and Luchita Hurtado. His mother was Venezuelan-born. In childhood he lived in Caracas, Venezuela for one year. Mullican received his BFA degree from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 1974. Troy Brauntuch
Troy Brauntuch (born 1954 in Jersey City, New Jersey) is an American artist. He lives in Austin, Texas. He graduated from California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1975. He was an adjunct professor at Columbia University and currently teaches at the University of Texas. Brauntuch has exhibited his art work at the 2006 Whitney Biennial, and in 2000 at the ''Modern Art Despite Modernism'' exhibit at The Museum of Modern Art. His work was in two group shows in 1982: documenta 7, Kassel and the Venice Biennale. In 1977, his work was in the ''Pictures'' exhibition at Artists Space.
